Could it just be the switch from an insert to a milled face? Not sure how I would gauge it not working for me after 1 round.
New feels and time required often the case with new litters more than most clubs imo. That being said I switched back to a blade from a mallet and an instant love affair began with so many holes putts and better pace control. Think my stroke just naturally suits a blade though as I tend to let it open and close naturally during the stroke and mallets just don’t seem to do that when I use them.

I think so : I‘m not shure if my Ray Cook putter is milled. In fact, I doubt it. But the Oddessey has an insert, and I consider him to be absolute unpredictable : One time my putts are to short, the next one won‘t stop at all ! 🤷‍♀️

That‘s why I returned to the Ray Cook !

I’ve always had milled but liked the look of the Ping Tyne 4. But I just can’t putt with an insert and I made the mistake of persevering with it for so long that now swapping back to milled is catching me out.

This could just be the difference between hitting one out of the centre of the face or hitting one out of the toe/heel.

Medal 3.
The wheels exploded off in spectacular fashion.

Heading up to Scotland next week for a boys golf trip - let's hope the banter is top notch cos my golf game is abysmal at the moment..

My wife's away this weekend so didn't think I would be golfing, MIL was having the kids last night due to a birthday party I was DJing at, said she'll bring the kids back in the afternoon so I can golf if I want, didn't need anymore encouragement than that 😂

I'm not sure if it was due to the forecast, but the course was very quiet and I couldn't find a single person who was interested in joining me beforehand, so I booked in by myself.

Anyway, started with my obligatory double, easy par on 2, drove the green on the 3rd (for the first time in a long time), just missed the eagle putt and had a tap in birdie.

Missed a tiddler on 5 for another birdie. +5 for the front 9.

Birdie on 10, then followed it with a par, bogey, bogey, par, par (leaving a birdie putt in the jaws), par, par (another birdie putt in the jaws) and finally a par for a lovely +7, 78.

I just wish I had been able to put that card in and there wasn't a single drop of rain.....

Possible. But why doesn‘t that happen with the Ray Cook at all ? 🤔🤷🏽
The "Trampoline Effect" vs. Constant Compression
Inserts are designed to feel soft, which often means they compress more than steel, whereas a solid block or cast putter like the Ray Cook will give the skid effect on off centre hits, giving the impression very little pace is lost.

-On a milled face, the compression of the golf ball is the primary variable. Since the steel doesn't give, the energy transfer is predictable even if you strike it slightly toward the toe.

- On an insert, you have two materials compressing ball and putter face . On off-center hits, the insert can deform unevenly compared to a center strike, leading to a significant drop-off in ball speed. This is why a "toe-hit" with an insert often finishes much shorter than the same mishit with a solid milled face.

-Ray Cook/Smooth Face: A smooth metal face has very little "grip" on the ball. On an off-center hit, the ball tends to skid longer before it starts rolling.

Played much golf in the last two weeks. Most recently:

Tuesday - Golf Pairs at The Welcombe - my partner was Crow and was great to catch up. Didn't set the world alight on the leaderboard, but an enjoyable round.

Friday - Little Aston - Amateur Tour Pairs - this was on my list of courses that I wanted to play and it did not disappoint. In great condition and felt premium throughout. I played my best for a while as well, although not necessarily reflected in the scoring.

Saturday - club stableford - the good form from the previous day lasted for three holes and then the poor shot making kicked back in and ended up with 29 points.

Today, 10:10 a.m. at the tee, no playing partner there (I was told later that he was late and then started playing at the 10. hole ... 🙄). I ended up playing alone because the group behind me (10:20 a.m.) wasn’t in sight either (I would have fit in pretty well with them in terms of handicap).

Result: 61 strokes, 16 net points—not exactly thrilling, actually rather below average, but this time I didn’t lose a single ball! 🥳 A few good shots that make me feel optimistic and let me overlook the—of course!—“topped” shots that happened again. Unfortunately, my putting was poor, mostly 3 putts, rarely 2, often with the second putt “dead” on the flag (2 handbreadths or less away, but not in). 😞

Highlight: A successful shot with the new lob wedge! A bit short, but a fantastic trajectory: steep and high, endless backspin, and exactly where it was supposed to go. 🏌️‍♂️

I can build on that! 😊

Got to be better than watching your team play mate

Out first thing and ended up fairly pleased with things.
I've struggled with the game for a month or 2, just little consistency...playing one hole like Faldo, the next like Fragger....
But it seemed to click today...20 points starting on the 10th that included 2 birdies to turn nicely up on handicap.
Onto the 2nd 9 and the consistency continued until the 6th when the knee started to stiffen. Struggled over the last 4 holes but finished with 17 points to total 37 and gain a small but...
Green shoots Rodn....sorry Dave...
