I have sat and watched today why Westwood won't....

....Win a Major IMO.All the shots that cost him the title today were with his very dodgy wedge play, the shot he had on 16 was not, to me (albeit from the armchair) nor Radar commentating, an at all difficult one yet the best he could do was 30 feet....3 jabs later and the title race was gone.Sadly he had 2 or 3 other occasions today when they were saying ''this isn't hard to get down in 2'' yet 3 to get down it was.

Quality Driver,long/medium/short iron player there is no doubting and a quality ball striker to boot but for me a Major will never come his way due to his questionable chipping action. I feel that he knows it too and this could be seen in the temper he was showing towards the end.

Fantastic round and performance from big Bob though and it is great to see him back...shoe in for Ryder Cup.

Westwood had an Andy Murray today, that I will agree with you on.

He lost it in his mind today, no doubt. He seemed to be lacking that strength and control that he finished last season with, really beating himself up about poor shots and never recovering.

Maybe it was the broken driver, who knows? But he seemed to me like an earlier Westwood today and not the better play who whooped McIlroy in Dubai.

Can't get my head round the driver issue here. SSNews said his replacement driver had a softer shaft and he had problems with accuracy.
Hang on - this is Ping's No 1 player. Does he not have access to new equipment when necessary? Surely there was some Ping representation there that could supply a new driver to the exact spec that the No4 player in the world requires!! I believe he's using an Aldila Prototype shaft but surely..................

Good win by Karlsson. Good to have him back

i would have to agree with Imurg on the ping thing, how they have nobody there to sort out a club for the man,is unthinkable, they kept saying about the kick point in the driver

good to see karlsson back winnig

good for me as i had 1 2 3 in the fantasy league

totally agree with `imurg` u would think he would have a couple of drivers made up with identical spec so that if ones damaged etc he could use his spare ..maybe he can`t afford the extra weight on his flight baggage :D :D

I think its incredible that he hasn't got several drivers made up to his specs and that there wasn't one on the tour truck. That said he didn't seem his normal self especially around the greens and never really attacked. Good to see Karlsson back though.

He's been on a right old jolly up since he won the RTD at the end of last year. To be in the shake up right down to the last 3 holes on Sunday in his 2nd tournament back is pretty impressive in my book.

on the issue of the driver i thought if your driver accidently broke you where entitled to change it but only for an identical one. If it had a softer shaft surely that would be braking the rules as it was not identical???

What a load of utter [****].

If Tiger can win so many majors and be a crap driver then Lee can win a major because the Race is a new Major and he won it.

Well well, you learn something new every day,the RTD is now a Major. :D

And there was you thinking I was talking tosh! ;)

Lot of driver talk in this thread, but I think it was his short game that cost him so the driver angle is not an issue regarding the OP is it?

I do agree that he should have any number of replacements avilable should he wish, if he hasnt then he is a bit dopey or giving everyone some flannel. ;)

I agree that his short game is his weakness.

But I don't think we're the only two to have spotted it.

Greg Norman had a weak short game until he worked his way through it, and he did ok in the end.

To win a major, everything has to fall into place at the same time : He has to be on top form, and none of the other players quite at 100% would just about do it. It's happened for others before now - never say never for young Lee.

PS I've asked him on his website whether he thinks his short game is up to it. What odds on an answer, all the other questions seem to be, 'How great is it to be brilliant?' Do you think mine might go unanswered?

I would rather answer yours if I were him ;)

I would probably say...."yes I am having trouble with my short game but I am working hard on it, now doff your cap peasant!" :D

Well he did lose his drive on the last well off line and that cost him - not sure which hole but it was late on.

But the short game was the real killer - I thought he'd worked with Mark roe and got it sorted. the mess with the driver probably put him in the wrong frame of mind.
