Not looking good for a round at all this weekend. :(

Saturday was a total non event. Howling wind and horizontal rain, not great conditions. Right now the wind is rattling the windows and everywhere outside is wet through.
On the plus side, it was the shortest day and from today the nights should begin to get longer. Post work knocks seem a long way away at the moment though as it's now officially winter.

Looks like the range may be getting a few visits just to make do.

I have retired early and TBH I love to spend my summers here and my winters in Malaysia or Philippines playing golf in the warm , weather , if I could afford it I would do just that now . Maybe just cut my ties and make the move .............maybe I will as I keep saying I will and one day I will do just that ....................................................EYG...............nite nite:cool:

I enjoy it, forward tees with some strong winds makes our course very intesting, drives that would normally still leave you 150/160 into the pin can now leave 50 yards if you play the wind right. On the flip par 5's you hit in two in the summer off forward tees can be driver 3w, 8i in the winter....... It's awesome!

You can really dislike some people ;)

Alot of it is having the right attitude, go there with the shoulders down and your beat already..... Go there pumped and you walk off with almost £100 loot from the swindle

Now tell me you hate me!

It's only a bit of water- skin is waterproof anyway

TBO I quite enjoy it sometimes.

Sure the weather can be a pain and the golf can he hard if the conditions are tough, but we always have a real laugh and it can be a lot of fun.

Take yesterday for instance , 30 mph wind and only 3 of us but the craic was amazing . On one hole it took us about 10 mins to drive off because we were laughing so much.

Forget your scores and have some fun , oh and a nice gentle walk for a couple of hours!

Spot on that man!

I do enjoy golf all year round and even when not playing well always look forward to the next round. But most of the courses in the area are very poor draining and they tend to let damage be done before they act , i.e letting trolleys and buggies out until it is all rutted up , then stopping them . I hate carrying but understand the need for it , so from experience, if the course is too bad for trollies i don't play . This last few months have been quite bad and courses are a mud bath , the only local course that stands up well with no temps and trollies all year has been mobbed for the last 2 months

Spot on - how golf should be

I played at Longniddry today in a howling gale. Out tee time was put back by 20 minutes whilst a strong hail squall passed through, but after that it was not too bad. We kept dry and the banter was good. The course was great for the time of the year and the greens extremely fast and true. The only real downside was the drive home in blizzard conditions with the snow drifting over the M90 making it a three hour drive.

I'm not a fan of rain but I have quite enjoyed playing in the wind over the last few weeks (except possibly last Sunday when I hit driver, 3W, 5W at our par 5 18th and still had a 92 yard wedge to the green )

I played my local track at the weekend and it was pretty windy and pretty cold.

Absolutely loved the challenge of it.

Sure the soggy lies and muddy shoes can be a pain at times, but isn't winter olf supposed to be a bit of fun and a time to work on things for the coming season?

I actually like winter golf when I think about it.

I am not a fan of playing in the driving wind and rain and would rather work on my game somewhere. Still we are edging towards summer. Get into 2014 just over a weeks time and we'll soon be in March and the Spring and the start of the proper season

I just can't get excited about winter golf, especially when you are on temps.
Personally, I don't see the point of winter. Everyone says we have to have it. Things have to die off so they can renew in Spring. Yeah, right, so why don't they have it in Barbados then?:D

We played at The Oxfordshire yesterday during a howling gale and torrential rain........ And had a blast. I really liked the course and thought the greens were in great nick. We only managed 13 holes before we had to walk in, along with the group in front and behind us, I think the only bods on the course. The front 9 was mostly just a very strong wind with a few light showers, but after the turn, the rain hit big time, and by 13 it was raining nails..... It was impossible to swing a club, literally being blown off our feet during the back swing. The trolleys and bags were being blown over at every turn and we couldn't look into the wind as the rain was sanding our eye balls. Unfortunately the last 4 or 5 holes were all uphill I to the wind , so we had to call it. Perhaps a bit mad to venture out in the first place, but was a good challenge and great fun. Actually played the front nine one over handicap, with 3 pars, so was chuffed to bits, not to mention the 350 yard drive straight down the middle on a wind assisted par 5. If it hadn't been for the onslaught of the rain, we'd have been happy to complete the round. The only real downside was that all our waterproofs proved not to be.......
