Hello there this is one of the awkward holes i dont play well enough often

The trees in front of the tee are very high, and going left off the tee is a big no no
The trees at 230 are also very high and theirs not much of a gap between them
There is a ditch at the 230 so i cant just take my driver and get it up there. also a water filled ditch protecting front of the green
Hitting your tee shot right onto the other fairway usually wont give you tree trouble but will give you a tough shot to a smallish green thats has a 3 yard wide water filled ditch protecting the front of the green.

Yardage of my relevant clubs when hit well and straight

Driver - 240 ish
3 Wood - 230 ish
3 Hybrid - 215 ish
4 iron - 200 ish

LW (62 Degree) - 80 ish
SW - 100 ish
GW - 110 ish
PW - 120 ish

Cheers

For me Id be looking to hit 4 or 5 iron off the tee leaving me a 9 iron or a wedge in and taking almost all the trouble totally out of play. A tee shot of 200-210 yards should be the basis of the approach I think, albeit only if the club that gets you to that distance can carry the trees with ease, if not you need to hit less club and leave further to the green

3 x pw and one putt for par!

looks quite intimidating from the tee with the tall trees. Is there no way you can fade one from the tee around the trees?

have you tried a couple of mid irons to the tee?

All guess work i suppose until you've faced it yourself.

A fade isnt a bad shot off the tee but as i said earlier it either works and fades or stays dead straight and anything left on this hole is just very very bad
Its one of those holes that can ruin your round, them tree are high too

Hybrid, 3 wood maybe, started out left and faded round the trees leaves an 8 iron to the green ?

Two straight and accurate 5 irons ?

A 9 iron to be sure of clearing the trees and stiff a hybrid from 190-200 yards ?

I would tee it high and let it fly......

..after dropping from the ditch, pitch on and sink the putt for a par

Or if me, pitch on then 3 putt for a 6

The obvious answer is 'why would anyone want to play such a badly designed hole?'

Has anyone suggested redesigning the hole to make it a bit fairer? The margins for error are very small and really not fair for the club golfer

What hole is it? A lot of it would depend on how I'm playing. 9 times out of 10 it'd be 3/4 iron off the tee then 8/9/wedge dependant on distance for second shot.

This every time

I would tend to agree. The trees make it very hard for the average golfer to play anything other than a high tarrif tee shot

I'd play my trusty 9 wood from the tee, sailing over the trees, to leave about 175 so the 9 wood would be the ideal choice for my next shot to the heart of the green.

But I see you don't carry a Dunlop 9 wood in your bag, best get yourself down to Sports Direct.

Some might say that people calling a hole badly designed really means its too difficult for them
Some might say that

if you can hit a 4 iron 200 I don't understand the issue at all - standard parkland shor par 4.

you hit the 4 (or even a 5) off the tee, aiming to fade it a little if possible.

sucess of the tee gives a visual advantage with your short iron approach - failure means you have to play over the trees (with your short iron)

don't understand the problem, and I can't see this as badly designed either; quite the opposite.

I think the problem is with most of us we dont always hit the shots well :)
Also the trees yes they are high but not impossible to get over if your high off the tee or can change your normal lower drive to a higher one
With a Driver in my hands im very comfy, but a 3 wood in my hands or a hybrid, long iron and im not as comfy, like the rest of us really

a lot of that can be associated with feeling that you have to use that club - but still trying to hit it 230!

be honest with yourself

I can hit a 3 wood 230 when i hit it very well, maybe thinking only hitting it 230 with my 3 wood will do could make you feel not umcomfy but just nervous,
Generally i hit it 230 or 10 :angry::angry::angry:
Recently bought new 3 and 5 wood and hybrid to match feeling much better with them
