how would you fair from the red tee's at your course chaps?

I have a vision of hordes of forumers playing off the reds this weekend, much to the amusement of their fellow members! :D

The ladies have a strange ritual of only one person being allowed on the tee at any one time. They then relay baton the next one onto the tee. That will take some getting used to!! ;) :)

Whites at Ealing are 70/70 SSS, Reds 72/74 SSS

Two of the 'normal ish' length par fours become par fives which is nice as I've been on both with a wedge. The biggest difference though at our place is two of our long par 3's would become 6/7 irons as opposed to 3 irons. And the par 3 last over water would become 112 yards as opposed to 179.

Would be comfortable going round the reds in a similar gross score if not one or two less. Had a gross 75 of the whites at the weekend so the same off the reds would be +3 gross and +1 gross over SSS.

I averaged 68.5 (1.5 under) off the yellows during the winter, 3.5 under my h'cap.

Hitting driver would be the right shot for many off the reds (at first glance) that view might change after playing it though. 7 holes would leave me within 20yds of the green by hitting driver off the reds - I'd back myself to make more birdies from there than from 100+ yds out where I'd be from the whites. :)

Indeed, I'm sure it'll differ slightly from course to course.

If you're 3.5 under h/cap off the yellows then 7 under h/cap should be 'normal' from the reds, no?

Therefore you should be gutted if you only shoot 5 under h/cap :p (3 under par and be gutted - LOL)

Not really, my arse would fall out when I got to 5 and I'd be lagging it all the way in. ;)

Interesting question requires a bit of thought! I'd expect to save 8 shots based on playing the way I did last week when I equalled my PB. I'd save nothing if I played the way I did yesterday evening :D ;)

Don't make me comment on men's toilet habits around the course..... ;)

There comes a time in a man's life when 18 holes is too many to complete without a quick wizz. Good golf course design will factor this in and have bushes that allow a man not to do it on his shoes.
The worst thing happened to me though, I was going discretely inside a bush off the course when I heard a voice ask me how he should improve his golf swing and the sudden rush of more water.... Somethings are private, why are men's urinals open to all to view and women have cubicles??

What about 190/200yd par 3's Heidi?

Our par 3's are;

2nd, 206yds+ very narrow and usually a cross wind so a 5w or hybrid off the whites, Ladies is 174yds so 4 iron or less would do it.

4th 142yds+ into the wind, uphill and a raised green could be 6 or 7 iron off whites, off the Reds is 125yds so a comfortable 8 iron

7th 140yds+ and you only have to carry the full width front bunker at 115yds so anything from 8 - 6 iron dependent on the pin & wind and off the Reds is 125yds so only 95yd carry with P/W or 9 iron.

10th is 190yds+ 4 iron or hybrid or even 5 wood when a good head wind, Ladies is 169yds off the reds so a 6 or 5 iron at most.

18th, 155yds+, uphill and always head wind so a strong 6 iron sometimes a 5i, Ladies 137yds so full 7i or comfortable 6i.

Not so scary off the reds!
Don't have any that long at our place, we have a par 4 that is 200 yards, I drive that with 5 or 7 wood, 5 iron if windy and loads of roll ;) most ladies would struggle with your par 3s off whites, they just don't hit it that far up hills! Try the reds, see how u get on!

We had a few holes last night and played off the reds

The first made no difference off the tee as its still 368 of the reds and it was a bit windy so driver still, but 2nd shot was two clubs less than usual into this wind. Par

2nd there is a burn running across the fairway at 230 yards off the reds and into the wind I couldn’t make the carry. So hit 17 deg hybrid which was about 10 yards short. So same again and just short of the green two putts saw a birdie (par form white)

3rd a good 30 yards closer hit 3 wood and pw for par.

4th a par 3 with flag on the front only 118 yards down wind so hit gw , but pulled into the bunker, dropped a shot, but its more or less the same hole just a bit closer with the same hazards.

5th does make a huge difference it goes from 377 down to 281 and takes the beach pretty much out of play but there are a 2 pot bunkers at 230-240 so just hit 3 wood just shot and bumped up a on to the green for a 2 put par.

6th par 3 again but just shorter 40 yards shorter hit 7 iron if I was off the whites would have been full 3 or 2 hybrid as the wind was really strong now.

7th played about the same as off the yellows , but able to just make the apron of the green chip 2 putts for par.

8th though the back with a 2 hybrid at only 280, but the fairway is pretty hard and got a good bounce. Chipped back on into the breeze and sank the birdie

9th again just 2 hybrid off the tee and bump an run with 8 iron and 2 putts..

10th a good 40 yards shorter and down wind so managed to get over all the trouble and only had 8 iron in for a two putt birdie.

11th par 3 not much in it but still able to hit shorter club than I would from the white. Dropped shot though as again pulled left.

12th goes from a 444 yard par 4 to a 400 yard par 5 off the red, drive and sw for a 4.

Unfortunately that’s was all I had time for but will try 13 on wards next time I get a chance.

Def 3 shots easier so far, but you still have to hit the shots as they say.

On a lot of holes at Ellesmere, there isn't too much difference in length on most holes, there are some notable exceptions though, a couple of the par5s are 100 yards shorter off the reds, the4th hole is 259 par 4 off the whites t a 132 par 3 off the reds, The difference is due to there being a 120 yard carry over a ditch and trees before you reach the red tee, half the ladies wouldn't be able to make this, also the par 3 9th is 180 off the whites and only 104 from the reds and is quite a scary tee shot from the whites.
