So how would you score if you as a man were allowed to play from the Ladies tee’s in a Competition?

My home course the ladies play to a par 75 SSS the same as apposed to 71 and 73 sss, the course is a good 1000 yards shorter from the red tee’s. That would mean 4 extra par 5. that i currently play as par 4's.

I suppose I could shoot 4 shots lower allowing for this.

And by the way, this is not a post against ladies, just a question for the guys.

600yds shorter and 2 more shots to cover them with, SSS to match, at ours.

It makes 5 holes driveable and turns a couple of par 4s into 5s where you won't be hitting much more than 7i in.

I'd guess at shooting 3-4 under regularly and would hope for 64 or 65 if everything went my way.

Only change would be the par 5's would be in reach. The par 3's and 4's would be shorter but still guarded by a load of bunkers. I reckon it would make about 2 shots different to par for me.

I'd be surprised at any of these claims of 2-4 shots better or regular sub par............you still have to putt well, driving a Par4 then brings in a narrow entrance over the wider area designed for tee shots, so your more likely to encounter sand or other hazards.
I agree about the Par 5's though as worst score will prob be par on them.

I went from a championship course/s up to 7000 yds for 14 years where I was holding my cat1 h/cap to a 5800 course last year and I expected/hoped to tear it up and get down further. For some of the reasons above I've played to handicap just a few times and been punished many many times......

However, like all things in life there will be the exceptions

Sorry to butt in..... ;)

I reckon you'd all fare a bit better if you were using the ladies SSS. If you got it assessed for a men's SSS it'd be lower than the ladies and you'd probably be about the same relative to handicap.

Different if you're only talking in terms of gross score.....

At my course, a couple of the pars 4s would go from longish and difficult to short and straightforward. There's a couple of par 3s that would change from hitting probably a 9-7 iron to a wedge. I'd say most decent male players would be 2-3 shots lower from the reds..... and "chompers" :D would probably be much the same as off the whites!

I understand what you are saying but at my place.

2nd hole off the white is 463 yards with a ditch at 260 yards to you have to lay up if its down wind as you need at least 275 to carry it. i usually take a 5 there, but of the red its par 5 so save a shot there and its 30 yards shorter

12th 444 yard par 4 , becomes a par 5 off the red and is 44 yards shorter.

13th is a 423 all uphill par 4 but play 20 yards longer, again a 5 here unless you scream a drive well down. again its a par 5 off the red and 20 yards shorter.

16th 420 yard par 4 off the white, becomesa par5 and 20 yards shorter.

so on these 4 holes if i still played them as par 5 would save 4 shot and thats not taking into account the other hols that are shorter.;)

On a good day I reckon I could go low. For a start our 229 yard opener is reduced to 150 yards and the other long 200+ par 3's are significantly short. I would say a coupl eof the par 4's are in range and the par 5's as the ladies play them are definitely reachable in two. Of course you have to do it on the day.

I've done it a few times for some variety. 1150-1200 yards shorter.

6-7 shots better was the average result.

Quite interesting to play 2nd shots from different areas, though sometimes it was simply a different club off the tee. Holes where it made a big difference were the Par 3s (much easier) and the Par 4s that I would normally play as Par 5.

A a relatively short hitter, playing of forward tees makes slightly more difference for me than the SSS would indicate, but that's about what the SSS calculation would indicate too - 6900 off white 5700 off Reds

As a relatively short hitter, going to the Yellows from Whites makes more than the 2 shots SSS changes by.

Length isn't everything..................as my ex GF used to say....frequently:smirk:

US Open anyone:cool:

you do realise it's not second shots we're talking about :ears:

someone had to do it

At my club I'd expect the main difference to be on par 3's.
I normally hit 5, 6, 4, 8 & 4 iron to our various par 3's. But If I moved to the red tees they would come down to probably 9, 9, 8, PW & 8 irons which not only would I expect to hit greens with but I'd also like to think I'd get close to pins more often than not.

A few of the holes at opur course are stupidly shorter, however I would probably shoot a similar score or lower by maybe 2 shots, Shorter does not mean easier.

Correct, but the hole design, bunkers, hazards etc are designed to affect and influence shots played from the respective tees allowing for expected distances for that gender.

Similarly, if a lady played from the men's tees, many hazards would become out of range - the par would go up for them, but the course may actually play easier.

2 or 3 shots better.

There would be more 'potential' to go low but it would depend on a hole-by-hole basis as playing off the ladies brings a lot of crap into play off some tees if you hit it more than 200yds so you'd actually gain nothing by being off the forward tee as you'd have to lay up.

We had a fun comp at my old course in NZ for the guys to be able to play off the reds on 9 holes of your choice. Was good fun but cant remember shooting the lights out though.

I might try this some quiet night. very few of those around at lee park. it must have a massive membership compared to my place back home.

I used to love having the course to myself in the evenings. those were the days. :swing:

The main thing would be the par 3s and 5s. All par 5s would easily be in reach as they aren't that long anyway and the trickier par3's are made much easier hitting at least 2 clubs less.

Course would be about 400 yards shorter with par being one more at 73 and also SSS 73.

I reckon 4 or 5 shots lower. Off my bounce game scores this year I seem to shoot 2 or 3 shots less off yellows than whites so reds would be a bit less still.

Lovely and quiet at Davyhulme of an evening pal  Weve got plenty of members but most seem to play Saturday and I barely ever see them other days for some reason.

Even Sunday afternoon just gone me and Dave were virtually playing millionaires golf :)
