How old are your clubs?

- And does it matter? Okay, it's raining and blowing outside and I am reading about golf instead of playing. So, here's my attempt at a lighthearted thread. I was reading an article on Golf Digest which suggested that your clubs need replacing every 5 years. I looked over my bag and found that the my clubs are mainly from around 2004 - 2012 (e.g. Mizuno MX-17 irons, Callaway 454 driver, Cleveland Mashie 5 wood). The most recent clubs are two Cleveland wedges from 2022. So, it's a mixed bag. How about you? And does it matter how old clubs are?

My driver is about 3 years old
3 wood is 6 years old but only bought this month
Hybrids 3-4 years old
Irons 7 years old
Putter 4 year old
Wedges 2 years old

Don't find the age makes any difference

Driver from 2017
Hybrids from 2008 and 2017.
Irons from 2021 (but bought new and unused recently).
Putters alternating between 1981 and 2020.

My best round and the only time I've broken 80 was with 20-year old Mizuno MP irons last summer.

Apparently my irons are 10yrs old, same for hybrid and 3 wood (all the same range). The wedges are about 6-7 yrs old to me, bought second hand. I've had my putter for 2 years but it must be 7-8yrs old again. My driver is a 2021 model, maybe 2022. That is the only club bought new.

I think tech in the woods, drivers have improved and worth changing for. The irons I am less convinced by and so am happy to keep going with them.

Everything was circa 2015 but just changed irons, driver & FW in the last 6-8 weeks

Kept my Nike putter though, that'll never leave the bag

Apart from my putter and hybrids my clubs have been bought in the last year after fitting. I don't actually change my clubs very often though . My irons are my third set ever having bought my previous ones about 12 years before hand. I've been playing for nearly 40 years.

Driver 2021
3 wood 2020
Hybrid 2020
Irons 2020
Wedges 2020
Putter 2020
All new and all custom fit in various guises.

If the clubs still work for you and are legal, it shouldn't matter.
My previous wedges were ten years old and I was getting as much spin off them as I did my 4 iron, and the bounce on my 60° was 14° and totally wrong for the courses I play, so was more than happy to change them! The driver has always been my weakest club, so finding one that works has been a pleasure. I could have stuck with 3W, hybrid, irons and putter, but I decided to splash out just before lockdown on the irons and then post lockdown decided to do the whole bag with the money I'd saved on the rail season ticket! 🤣

According to Golfbidder my 5 & 7 woods and my driver are all from 2019. I don't have anything older than that - irons, hybrid and wedges were all bought early this year or back end of last year. Putter is a little over 2 years old.
