how much of an increase in your membership fee is too much???

I think the prices of courses in Scotland are too low...

Being a member of a golf club for 10 quid a week is ludicrous

Until you are well past a grand a year IMO it is way too cheap

With regard to VAT, of course golfers should be able to claim it back, most wont of course, but clubs should have no problem with it as it is not their money, it is Tax paid to them they should not have taken

What a load of bollocks as usual from you, £10 a week is to cheap, get a grip , up in Scotland to a certain extent its a working mans game not like a lot of clubs down south. Usual nonsense post

Thank you for your charming reply, i assume i should agree with you or i am wrong? Correct? Not much point in a forum then, why not just tell us how it should be and we can all read this and refer to it as needs be.

Your approach?

18 holes for a fiver mate, this is how you would run your club into the ground given the chance... make it cheap cheap cheap and see how that works for you, golf clubs are failing as they are becoming discount venues and golfers have become discount seekers.

Golf in the UK and ESPECIALLY in Scotland should not be doing this.

10 quid a week is cheap LESS THAN A QUID 50P TO PLAY GOLF each day and use the facilities and bring guests too!

In the context of what you get it is cheap

In comparison to other parts of the UK it is cheap

IN comparison the international market is dirt cheap

Golf IN Scotland SHOULD NOT BE CHEAP!

If you think that is not cheap, then you are cheap

Why in your opinion should golf not be as cheap as it can be, not just in Scotland but all over.

Most are run on a non profit basis, so if they can survive charging £10 a week then why should that be an issue.

Could it be the other way round and courses everywhere else are fleecing their members by charging more.

Sorry but to state that any product "SHOULD NOT BE CHEAP" is ridiculous.

Is the club covering its costs and a little more for reserves ? Are the members happy with course conditions and other facilities? Is there anything the club needs to do but can't afford? Is the club being subsidised?

Provided it is Yes to the first two and No to the others it is not for others to say it is too cheap.

Certainly not just because golf is more expensive elsewhere in the world.

As an Englishman I have always admired the often more inclusive attitude within Scottish clubs and it would be a mistake to jeopardise that merely to satisfy a marketing approach.

I could agree with you if Clubs such as Nairn and Royal Dornoch were offering a poor quality product to their members, but they are not. These are top 100 courses that can afford to offer good value to their members because they charge top dollar to casual green fee payers.

So I'm cheap ,what a load of bollocks , so i'll phone my secretary tomorrow and tell him i'll pay £1300 for my fees next year just to keep you happy as golf in Scotland according to you should not be cheap. My club the 13 th oldest in the world by the way is run properly and is always in the black, we do get visitors playing St Andrews etc but its well run thats why its CHEAP.

What a bunch of complete and utter drivel !

Why the heck shouldn't golf be cheap in Scotland ? If the club is getting enough finances in to ensure the club is at a high standard then it is irrelevant if it's cheap or not

Quite simply (and trying not to get infracted) but that is rubbish. It's market forces and why shouldn't Scottish courses be able to provide value for money for £10 a week to its members providing their business model returns a profit annually, or as a non-profit making club, has the money returned in for future investment, and the members are happy with the quality of the course and the clubhouse.

I find the comments provocative, ill founded and naive at best
