how much of an increase in your membership fee is too much???

Aye - but that hour could be just a bit tricky in the snow...if I could even get out of Dundonnell...but of course - no golf course.

Fortrose would do me just fine and dandy, with Fortrose and Rosemarkie GC looking a cracking track for membership - and £420 a year membership with no joining fee. But my Mrs won't have it. So Glasgow it'll have to be.

its pretty short but makes up for it by always being windy with tiny little greens. def thinking about it myself esp and you can get around without the driver.

Ours will inevitably increase again. We are expensive, governed partially by our location and our competitors. At the moment I still considering I'll get value for money, especially given the amount of time I spend there and the efforts going into the state of the course from our new(ish) greenkeeper, his team and the new machinery

Reading this thread make me sad!

our club has now gone up to £940 ( £30 increase). Not happy in all fairness as I feel the club was expensive last year. we don't live in an up market area but the cost of other clubs around us are much the Same!

stating think is there value in renewing ?

dint understand why price is so high

Small rise in our fees, this is despite a hefty sum from HMRC.

The club have sound plans for where the money will be spent, thankfully the majority is being spent on new equipment for the greenkeepers as well as a large chunk on course improvements.

I'm actually happy its not being used to subsidise fees as its a one off payment and is better spent on long term projects than saving a few pounds for members.

that's a lot of equipment dear boy... didn't you get over £500K

Anything over £25 increase per year is too much if you ask me. However lots needs to be done to keep the older juniors/intermediates so think this should be subsidised and id be happy to contribute as bet loads like i did give up the membership when getting on the property ladder becomes the priority. I hardly played between 2006-2012.

It is Patrick but they need new sheds as well due to using what looks like old bomb shelters and they don't come cheap, additionally some money will be put aside for any future projects etc

sound sensible John.

we had new green keeping sheds this year.... cost a packet, a rough cutter and bailer machine and couple of years ago a graden and some machine that injects air into the greens.

no real planning.

Assuming the club is a members club. we assume the fees reflect the cost of running the club to a particular standard. Having been a member of an Artisan Club and an up Market Club. The above was the case. Pay more you get more. Not necesseraly a better course but better/more facilities.etc.
Or do you know different?

50% more over a few years, i'm not sure that reflects the club being run well

Ours has stayed the same for 2017, I've looked into playmoregolf membership and playing more away day comps through the year ! £917 a year for a course that is shut Jan,Feb and I play 3 times a week so decent value.

Pmg is £325 a year but you get points to use!

A year out :-)

Why would you leave Nairn?

I don't want to leave, but the increase year after year is starting to get to me TBH. esp and i can't see it ever stopping and the club running within its means... for instance we lost £12k on the shop stock this year along with £80k on catering.
the shop does not sell clubs as such only clothing and shoes, sometimes there are 4 or 5 staff in there..

The normal bar food it expensive for what it is £10 for a burger and 4 chips, yet a 2 course Sunday lunch is £15 for on the bone Sirloin.

Blimey that sounds a bit serious on the catering side - must be £100 loss per member right there. Frustrating if the committee sees the only way to fix the problem is to increase fees. Catering at golf clubs is a notoriously fickle business - everyone want all types of food available at all times and to be cheap and high quality - not an easy circle to square. I doubt there are many full service clubs which run a profit on the catering side. Good luck - be a tragedy to feel driven to leave a great course like Nairn.

You shouldn't be losing that sort of money on catering. From what you have said it sounds like there hasn't been much planning for the future going on/contingency funds/long term plan.

What are other members views on the fee increase, has it been raised at AGM?

i tried too last time, pass just passed without even an acknowledgement of the issues. Committee is a bit of a clique and pat themselves on the back how well the club is doing... as i said before many at the club are playing very little and they club is run for there benefit. other guys have tried, gone on but leave disheartened.

i would n't mind if the course was perfect, but its far from that.

its been that sort of loss every year since i've been there

I pay a joining fee of £25 a year.

Direct debit payment of £50.46 a month.

I ge the option to play 23 courses for free too, along with a free Footboy Hydrolite wet suit worth £200 alone.

I try to play once a week.

Hollymajolly someone needs there botty kicked...is it nepetisim or the like..I stayed at Gleneagle's recently. Every course was booked full yet including the assistant pro booking you on to your course, they didn't havemore than 5 staff in a very large double shop. Busy shop.
The steak isn't that cheap for a clum, but again a loss of 80k someone on the take.
Get me in I'll sort it in six months.
