How many of the top 100 courses have you played

Twelve for me.

The thing that puts me off trying to play more of them is coughing up a good wedge to play and then be ushered on to the most forward of forward tees. The course you end up playing bears little resemblence to what you have read about or seen on TV.

I agree, I can’t really justify the costs of pretty much all but a few of the courses. To make matters worse the wife reads the magazine as well so knows how much these all cost and would kick up a fuss if I spent £200 plus on a round of golf that some of the courses charge. However the ones I have played only had to pay for Castle Stuart and Gullane 1. ;)

Looking thru the list again there's no way Ladybank,Panmure or Montrose Medal are better than my track Scotscraig but everyone has a different view i suppose.

How can you compare a parkland course like Ladybank with a links like Scotscraig? Both are great courses but completely different. I know which one I prefer.

Sorry Clive but Scotscraig ain't a links course have been a member there for 10 years and haven't thought that,by the way what one do you prefer?.

I Used to stay near both courses and I admit it's a long long time since I played Scotscraig (nearly 20 years) but I always prefered Ladybank.

Was never a great fan of some of the holes at the far end of Scotscraig. It may have changed a bit though as you stated it was shown to be the hardest course in open qualifying. It used to be the easiest when i stayed up there

Now that I have seen the list I have played 16 of them, mostly in Scotland.

Very difficult to compare the courses due to course type, weather, company and golfing ability on the day.

On the latter subject I played Dornoch, for the first time, too early in my golfing career and still had a tremendous slice with my woods. In those days Dornoch still had sheep grazing and they ate the tops of the whin. This created shorter but thicker growth so it was goodbye to many golf balls as the whin just opened up and devoured them.

I was not partnered on the day and was one of few on the course so I had no witnesses, apart from my non-golfing wife, to make fun of me.

I subsequently played a number of times for my club against Dornoch, the course now turned out perfectly but still had feelings for the course in it's traditional state.

Stuart i don't no why it was the hardest but it was ,over the years they've ripped out loads of gorse bushes for some reason unkown to us,the first had big gorse bushes all the way up the right hand side,11 had them all down the left, 4 had them to the left side of the green it was probably harder then.

And I would challenge Scotscraig as being described as Links......like Panmure it is never in a million years a links course, heathland is a closer description IMO.

Why?????? The 1st tee is what i remember most. Probably because i hit many a shot from there

Scotscraig's own website describes the course as Links/Heathland mixture. http://www.scotscraiggolfclub.com/golf_course_guide.htm although I too wouldn't consider it a true links course.
Personally I prefer Ladybank. It had the best greens I have played this year and was in superb condition.I have played Scotscraig twice this year and was supposed to be playing there on Sunday, but when I phoned this morning I was told it will be closed until Monday because of the weather. I do enjoy the course and always look forward to playing it, but I wish they would do something about the car parking. :(

The greens were poor until The Open Qualifying and i did mention that fact, they were ok of after that tho,the car park is a joke your correct there even early morning you struggle to get a spot and have to park in that stupid overflow car park.

Well as least you no its closed we got an email saying there's an inspection tomorrow as always the members are last to no :o

33 for me. I have been lucky to play the Scottish courses with family at an early age and lucky again to play most of the Surrey courses through work.

Hope to add Bearwood Lakes, Hunstanton, Royal St Georges and The Grove to that list next year.

As everyone says, these lists are subjective. I would put West Sussex miles higher than it currently is for example. And RCD is in my view, the best course in the UK.
