How Many Eagles Have You Had?

Don’t know to be honest. Putting isn’t my strong point. I have quite a few hole in ones and a few eagles but I didn’t count how many.
My course only has 1 par 5 at 540yards and bunkers at 220-250 then so it’s management case for me. I was contemplating having a go at the 290yard par 4.
The first at Ellesborough is drivable, I have managed it. The 12th (?) par 5 is quite straightforward on in 2 as it has 2 ripples in the fairway and you land on the down slope and go miles ..
But counting eagles no not done it for a while if I do it will be a shot in to the green

I genuinely have no clue. Been playing so long now, and it’s not something I really keep a count of as I do aces. All I can say is I have eagled 9 of our 18 holes, some of them multiple times, and I have had eagles elsewhere.

One interesting stat. One of my regular playing partners has had an albatross, having holed his second at a par 5, but has never had an eagle.

It's always annoyed me that a birdie on a par 3 is treated as being better than an eagle on every hole except a par 3....
A HiO, on a par 3, has the same effect on your score as a 2 on a par 4 or a 3 on a par 5....but gets little of the kudos...

A HIO will be seen as better because it’s completing a hole in one shot - yep stat wise it’s 2 under par but surely it’s clear to see why it’s seen a little differently

Guy I used to play with years ago had never been lower than 16. Weighed about 8 stone dripping wet and although he didn’t hit it very far he was arrow straight. 6 holes-in-one. I saw him have countless 2’s on par 3’s. Annoyingly good from 175 yards in. All his eagles were on par 3’s.

I've only ever had one "proper" eagle: drove the green on a short par 4 (about 260) and holed the putt.

Apart from that, all my eagles have been lucky hole-outs with the second shot on par 4s, plus a chip-in on a par 5.
(At Grims Dyke, as it happens: 2nd, 9th, 13th, 18th).

(Oh, and I did join the hole-in-one club last year - always forget that's an eagle).

My two were on the 9th (yellow tees) and the old 14th that no longer exists (laid up and pitched it in from 70 yards).

I would reckon 10-12, 4 showing on HDID, an ace in a pairs event, an eagle 2 on the 2nd at St Andrews Jubilee course (only time i have driven a par 4 green) and several when out just playing casual golf.

Wow. That’s a tough one, not least because an albatross requires a decent drive and a good second, that second invariably being a long approach.

But as I’ve had three aces and no albatrosses, I’ll say a hole in one nicks it.

Plus a hole in one you get to tee it up & are guaranteed a good lie.

I’ve had 1 hole in one & had a few close.

An albatross is better than a hole-in-one. It's rarer - the distances involve suggest that it will always need to be done with a longer club - and it would be off the deck rather than sitting perfectly on a tee.

Do you mean an Eagle on a par 3 rather than a birdie?

Although it is not true for every Eagle many can be got when the ground is running firm by a holing a long chip or putt and a running drive , whereas unless you are playing pitch and putt a hio has to be holing a fairly long shot so I do see why the hio is seen as better.

About 10 eagles for me. I haven’t had an eagle since I joined my club, over 11 years ago, just aren’t many opportunities I probably only give myself a couple of eagle putts a year.

I’m not counting my eagle from a few weeks ago when we were still playing a par 5 from a temp winter tee and it was playing under 400 yards.

The number massively depends on the courses you play. I once had 2 in a day at North Downs. And the 18th at Stanmore I would expect to be putting for eagle every round.

Saw an Albatross on the 1st hole at Gillingham many moons ago. Kent League A team match, one of the Gillingham guys hit a peach of a tee shot landed on the right side of the green where it fed down to a back left pin and in she went.
