I'm just curious as to how many eagles everyone has had? I'd imagine low cappers and long hitters have lost count, but in my group of mates the numbers seem pretty low.

My 15 handicap mate who's a long hitter just got one the other day and reckons it's his third. I myself (not a long hitter) have had two. My mate who's a similar handicap and a slightly longer hitter also only has two. Our 23 handicap pal got one, holing out from the fairway on a blind hole a few years ago.

Are these low numbers or about normal for amateur golfers??

I honestly have no real idea but I reckon around 30.
I remember my 1st one which was a short par 4 where my mate hit his drive to about 20 feet and I drove into the rough but then chipped in and he missed his putt 😂.
Most of mine have been from the fairway rather than holing a putt.

I've had one of each, one putted on a par 5 (our 9th from the yellows) and one pitched in on a short par 4.

I had an eagle putt on our 9th the other day, but quite far away so I took a two-putt birdie. We were playing off the yellow but I only do that about once a year, and I can't really reach it in two from the whites so chances are few and far between.

Zero. Been playing less than a year.

I had 3 eagle putts in one round recently. Didnt even get a single birdie.

Im working on my short game, i think my biggest improvements are there.

Not blowing my own trumpet but I honestly have had loads....not so many these days though.
1st club I was a member at I eagled 9 of the holes at least once, some of them, especially the Par 5s 2, 3 or even 4 times.
7 holes at my 2nd club, again some of them multiple times.
5 at my 3rd..see above.
5 at the current one so far with only 1 multiple
Plus at least 2 or 3 others during away days.
So that's 28 or 29 individual holes...add in the multiples and it has to be around the 50 mark.

Wouldn’t even know where to start counting. I’d hazard a guess I’m over the 50 mark, based on longevity of playing, plus at my old Course I could drive 2 of the Par 4’s and reach all the Par 5s in 2.

My bigger annoyance is never having had a hole in one. In fact the combined number of golfing years in my family Dad, Brother and myself is roughly 105yrs in total. Yet not a single hole in one between us 😂

Would you say you are/were a long-hitter? Or were a lot of them hole-outs from distance?

I can't see myself getting many eagle putt opportunities, since there are only two par 5s at my course, off whites they are 513 and 490, and I can't reach them in two except for maybe on a dry-as-a-bone summer fairway with wind behind. So I'd be relying on luck mostly.

Wind and elevation helped but, back in the day, I wasn't classed as a short hitter, especially after I got my Great Big Bertha driver..
Eagles our 18th a couple of years ago when a combo of downwind and bone hard ground left me a 7 iron 2nd shot which I knocked to about 10 feet.
Definitely more than a few chip-ins and full shots and, of course, the 4 Aces I've had.

Not counted, but I know I eagled 11 of the 18 holes at my last club, sometimes several times. Had a few at my latest club and also some others sprnkled around the various opens and away courses I've played. I doubt it would be close to 50, but certainly in the 21-50 range

The huge difference in numbers so interesting. It's as if, once you reach mid-to-low single figures, your number of eagles suddenly goes FLYING up. (Pun not intended.)

Just the one. On the par 5 9th at Heydon Grange. Downhill & down wind, somehow got to the front of the green in two and the putt was just get it close and yet somehow it went in. Annoyingly there was nobody around to witness it.

I’d say the 2 main factors are distance and course set up.

At my current course in theory the 1st a slightly downhill and driveable as it’s a 285yd Par 4 that would set up many eagle opportunities. I can reach it but the only way I’m ever eagling it is by pitching in from 70yds. As the shape of the hole just stops you going at the green unless you can sling a slice round the trees like Bubba! Then our Par 5s are right on the cusp of reaching them, but they’re not receptive to long shots and have small well guarded greens so you’d need a worldie of a shot to set up an eagle chance and then a hell of a sinking putt to make it.

My place is not set up for super low scoring (see my issues today 😂). Yet my brothers course which is a lot longer than mine, the layout favours aggressive golf and there’s 3 holes I know I’m going at the greens off the tee and I’m going for all the Par 5s as there is safe misses.

Then there’s the 3rd key factor Luck 😂

It might be over 50 for me, but can't be certain so ticked 21-50.
Had two last year - full shot with a 46° on a par-4 and a 50-yarder with a wedge on a par 5. Both in competition rounds.

Its the social rounds that I tend to forget over the years.

But some memories are very clear.
My first one was 1978 - sank a putt from just short of the green on a par-5 playing for the 1st team in an away match.
