How long do you keep your clubs?

Same irons since 1997 for me (Titleist DCIs), although I barely played from 2000-2010. Have changed putter and 3 wood once since then and driver twice and a couple of wedges have come and gone. I don't really see me changing my irons until they break down completely.

After owning 5 sets of irons over the last 2 years, I'm staying away from this thread...

Carry on..

6 sets in 11 months ?!

Surely that can't help your golf constantly swapping your irons

Depends on how happy I am with them. Had a set of Ping Eye 2's for years until they declared them illegal, never got on with the replacements, kept changing until I found another set that I was happy with until I fell out with them & so it goes on.

Checking my e-bay purchasing history (which I keep hidden for obvious reasons ) it would appear that I change my gear around every two to three years.
Jan 2012 saw me purchasing my Cobra stuff, and I have just changed again.
I think I suffer from S.A.D. as most of my bigger purchases (be it golf clubs, new tellies or fishing tackle) tend to happen around this time of year and I think spending a bit of dosh acts as a "pick me up".
This time next year it will be a new telly I expect. It's been a couple of years since I last bought one.
(Just checked my emails and it's almost two years to the day!!).

Wow. That is a LOT of clubs in 11 months! Has it helped your game at all? I'd assume not.

I've only been playing about 18 months to 2 years, and am on my 3rd set of irons, but my Nike Coverts are my first new set. I had a set of awful Dunlops to start which I hated, then moved onto Callaway Big Bertha X-22's last December, before taking the plunge and upgrading to something a bit more modern this year, and can't see them getting changed any time soon!

I have had my current mp53s for about 3 years I think. I am tempted by a new set....

I've had 3 sets in the last 15 or so years. Callaway X12s, Ping S59s and my current Titleist AP2s which I suspect I will still have in 3 or 4 years time. So an average of between 6 and 7 years for me.

I've had 3 sets over the last 10 years. Averaging 3 to 4 years a Set.

Ben Sayers set last about 3 years, then my Nike Slingshots the same. Lastly my Ping G15's, got me from 22 to 13 in the last 4 years. Unfortunately missed Cat 2 this year, so can't get myself the promised new set off Irons I promised myself for Cat 2 if I stayed there this year.

Just fancy getting fitted for new Irons, but will wait another year. See where my shovel's will get me next year.

I got fitted for my MP63's in Feb 2013.

Still in the bag, and still going strong.

I'll, probably, change after 5-6 years, but if they're still playing well and in reasonable condition, I may put it off longer.

Driver and fairway (910D2 and 910F) is the same as the irons.

Wedges (MPT4's) too as I was fitted for them along with the irons :D

(Odyssey) Putter went in about 8 months ago. Previous putter (Scotty Del Mar) lasted just over 2 years.

Since I started playing again 5 years ago I've had...

Irons.
MP-32
AP2
Nike Pro Combo
MP-69

Drivers.
905T (?)
909D2
910D2
SLDR

I have no itch to change anything at the minute, but never say never :)

How longs a piece of string? It varies for me, I've had a set for 8 years, but I've also had a set for 6 months. My current clubs, I've had for just under 2 years and would have kept them a lot longer, but I won the open sweepstake at a local club. First prise was a £600 custom fitting so I upgraded from JPX 825Pro to the JPX 850 Forged. Hopefully these will be in my bag for a long time.

Irons last me 5-10 yrs - takes me ages to get to really like them but they stick when I do
Woods last for 2-5 yrs - damned Titleist bring out lovely new ones every 2 yrs which gives me really bad GAS
Wedges last for 5-10 yrs - usually wear them out or just fall out of favour
Putters are much more interesting - I have three from the last 15 years which cycle in and out; the YES! one has been consistent for 18 mths now and doesn't look like loosing it's place at all

Never had the funds to change equipment frequently so try to buy wisely and get properly fitted for stuff which lasts - and given how long it takes to get settled with it i'd be daft to swap out all the time. There is something nice about experimenting though and good luck to folks who take that path.

Think over the last 20 or so years of playing I've had:

Regal (no idea what model) irons, used for about 7 years - still in parents garage and used as a spare set for if anyone wants a game with us.
Dunlop DDH irons - kept for about a month, then traded in for
Taylormade RAC OS irons, regular graphite. Re-shafted to stiff steel rather than buying a new set & later passed on to my dad. Did keep these in play for about 7 years
Titleist 712 AP2's - had for a few years now, not even thinking about having to upgrade but am thinking about re-gripping them before new season starts, hopefully will have them a while.

Been through a fair few drivers over the years ranging from Ben Ross, Calloway, Cobra, Nike. Not as many other woods. Wilson 3 wood and a Hippo 5 wood, had both of them for about 15 years before upgrading over the last couple of years.

Apart from a few of the drivers and the Dunlop irons, still got every club I've ever owned.

Was a serial club changer, but irons are normally a 2 year rotation. I think that may have to change though, and I will stick with my MP-54's for a little while longer than the 2 year period. It's just a shame that it fits with the Mizzie product releases, so something new comes along and sparks my interest!!
