How long do you keep your clubs?

On the back of chillicon's thread about getting used to new clubs, how long do you tend to keep a set? My current set are 3 years old and I've not really considered changing them in that time. Still in good nick (soft forged heads) and plenty of life left in the grooves.

So, do you change clubs every weekend or keep a set for years?

Coming up a year. I tend to put a lot of wear on clubs but I am not spending money on equipment at the moment so I shall have to wear the chrome off them this time.

All that said I do tend to look at MP 54s every day... sad man!

I've had my irons for around 3-4 years. No real intention of changing unless Camelot force me too. :D. Same with driver, but I'm liking the look of the Titleist 915 and Nike Vapor Pro... :)

Wedges I've had for over 5 years - grooves are fine and I really like them.
Putter: again, had it for around 4 years (I think) - I love it, so definitely no change there.

I've got a new set of irons being shipped from the bay atm, so a sensitive subject chez moi....

Last iron set purchased in 2011, so not too bad. I've been playing for around 8 years and have gradually increased the distances between purchases as I have developed my understanding of the game and gradually acquired better or more appropriate kit.

I have tended to 'warehouse' old kit, as it's often helpful to be able to have a set in the shed or car for a quick trip to the range. My normal kit is at the club. Plus it keeps the current equipment honest...

Have just put first piece of replaced kit up for sale, as think that there is a limit to acceptable hoarding. If it goes well I might find 'changing' gets a bit more frequent...

My current set of irons (Titleist AP2s) are now coming up for five years old, whilst the set they replaced (Titleist DTRs) are thirty years old and still lurking in the back of the cupboard.

I have my set for more then 5 years now!! Im thinking of renew them soon, but i like them and i have a feeling a new set wouldnt improve my game so much...if i buy a new set, i will go to my clubmaker and this time i will order a thinner grip....i have instead booked a table at an restaurant that have chefs with internationell masterclass. its an meny of 16 dishes and it cost like a good golfset...we have been married 25 years!!!!

I'll admit to being a serial gear changer in my time.
Having said that, I think I may be settled for a while now, the only foreseeable changes will be if something breaks or wears out.
Just regripped the irons so will try to not look at another iron for a while
Finally happy with the top end of the bag and the wedges/putter have been in for a while now.
I'm in the unenviable position of actually not needing anything golf related except maybe a shirt/top or 2.....

My last set (MP62, which ive still got ) were played with for 4 or 5 years. Had the current set of JPX pro for two seasons. Prob goung to change them at the start of next season for some MP4's.

Until I find a set that improves what I'm currently using

I've had three sets of irons in the last six months, but there are extenuating circumstances. I dumped my Taylormade MC irons for a set of Mizuno MP53s in May but got the chance to buy a set of MX23s for £80. I have experimented with these, adding 1½" to the 3 & 4 irons and extending the rest in equal steps until the wedge is standard length. The experiment has worked so well I am now trying to sell the MP53s and it looks as if I'll have to take a big loss to unload them. I never buy new clubs but have worked my way through the Taylormade driver range from R7 to SLDR, where I shall stay for the moment because I don't think the R15 is much of an improvement.

Have you hit the R15 already ?

Well, I've had a few sets in my time ........ Probably 15 sets in the same number of years. I have 3 sets at the moment

After owning 5 sets of irons over the last 2 years, I'm staying away from this thread...

Carry on..

You and me both!

Threads like this one are dangerous if my wife ever sees it. I keep telling her that every golfer changes every few months.

Ssssshhh! You never know who might be looking in.

Irons until I get bored and fancy a change, usually 3 to 4 years. I keep my hybrids/woods until I get drunk and go on the internet as one thing usually leads to another and before you know it I've ordered a new one.

Started playing with Nike slingshot irons, replaced these last December with JPX EZ forged. I'm very happy with current clubs, but like the look and feel of the new JPX 850 boron forged irons.
