How Close Have You Been to an Ace?

Bottom of the cup once, plus quite a few near misses and hitting the flag stick and bouncing away. Nearly got another one a couple of weeks ago when playing a 9 hole practice round by myself. I saw the ball nearly go in, but lip out and stop about 3" away. But how could I have proved it if it had gone in? In company, at the beginning of last month, I had another near miss where my ball made a pitch mark about 3 feet in front of the hole and finished about a foot behind it in a direct line. Not quite sure how close it came to going in, as the hole was hidden from the tee by a slight hump in front of the green. :(

Bang in line with the pin, less than 10mm. Still to this day I do not know how it didn't drop and the best thing was I called the shot in the tee.

Back when I could swing a cue

bottom of the cup. Pitched past the whole and span back in..... with no playing partners around to witness. Gutted! very hollow feeling celebrating a hole in one on ya' todd

Likewise. Mine pitched a foot short and jammed into the cup on the 2nd bounce. Jumped up and whooped like an eejit before I realised I was on my lonesome :(

Aside from that, I've flown one a couple of feet past and watched it zip back and clatter the flag, before finishing 18" away. Missed the putt too :o

Been lucky enough to have 3 so far but the closest without going in, was on the the Nicklaus course at St Mellion on the short 8th where i hit a hit a 9 iron and hit the pin stopping less than a foot away. Played it again the next day with my Dad who said I bet you cannot get it as close as you did yesterday, so I hit the Same club, exactly the same shot and outcome.

I hit the pin once a few years ago now but never been close since. I blame the 'hole-in-one' insurance I have as part of my golf cover. Therefore, if one does come, I need it to be in a club comp then I am good for about £250 rather than the bottle on the bar that others seem to go for.

Never really threatened in 35 years. A couple of inches once and hitting the flag halfway up (travelling way too fast to drop) are my best efforts. To be honest I struggle on par 3's. Don't know why

Had one roll past the hole on a par4 - missing to the side by a few inches - but ended up 6ft past. Someone standing by the green saw it and told me when I got there. Closest with ball stationary was about 6". Had one actually in the hole - but as I was by myself I am told it doesn't count - I don't think I can get any closer than that.

1 inch directly behind the hole after pitching about 4 feet short on a par 3 at Hillside. No idea how it could have stayed out, but it did.

A few years ago I smashed the back right hand lip of the Downhill 1st at Walmersley, It made a right mess of the hole.
The ball finished about 4 ft Away, I then went on to miss the birdie putt.

Had my first HIW last year after playing for 4 years.

Had quite a few near misses. Hit the pin a few times. A couple only inches away, quite a few within 3ft.
