Afternoon all

Homer J Simpson was in at GM Towers today to get the ball rolling on the new Forum pages that will debut in the April issue of GM.

I'm sure in his new position as "community editor" Homer will fill you in with more details later (he will be the point of contact going forward on these pages) but in the meantime I thought I'd give you a brief overview of what's in store

Each month the pages will feature a mixture of forum related content including...
* "meet of the month" (gathering of 4 and upwards forumers) with a report and pics and scores from the day plus a list of forthcoming forum fixtures
* Hot topics - a round up of the best posts/threads and debates
* Review of the month - The best, most useful, review posted on the "post a review" sub forum, reprinted in the magazine
* Meet the forum - profiles and pics of three forumers

Really looking forward to getting this going and seeing more of you all in the magazine!

Mike, how far in advance are the mags put together? Are you working on the April edition now? This is so I can work out which edition Homers Ascot meet will be in. :D :D

we are just doing the last pages on the March issue today. Work on April stars tomorrow.

I think Homer and I discussed the Ascot meet featuring in the June issue with epic battle of Goswick the month before in May

subs take about 6 weeks to be activated - the March issue will go out to subscribers at the end of next week I'd have thought

Nice result Homer, couldn't have happened to a more committed forumer!

I take it the new position involves a regular commute down to the smoke with an enormous expense account!

Or do you make the tea when you're down there?

I think Mike et al should be congratulated on their forward thinking on this one. Times are hard enough for publications, lets face it most of what is reported in mags is often out of date, or at least not up to date (because of the deadlines), and we can all find out pretty much what we want to find out online. The mags come into their own on new product launches and instructional features. But what GM has done is quite clever. I probably enjoy reading about the views and how their game is going, and the other 'fun' stuff on here more than reading about some pros disappointing performance at wherever.

I'd like to wish Homer and GM all the best in making 'our' two pages of the mag the most amuzing, informative and fun part of the mag. I also hope that it will make the game seem less elitest, well how could it do anything else when you start doing forumer profiles. We hardly fit the wealthy, Roller driving retired business type of stereotype :D

Thanks everyone for the votes of confidence. I'm going to put a separate post up shortly with my e-mail account for all of those that want to feature in the meet the forum section and for you to send me GOOD QUALITY pictures of the forum meets especially the Scotland vs England match.

I had a great couple of hours with Mike and he has got some really exciting ideas for the magazine and for the forum and its members which I'm sure he will announce in good time. I'm flattered to have ben asked and hope I can do you proud and make it your favourite bit of the magazine.

GM Towers is an amazing place with so many publications under one roof. Some of the Marie Clare ladies look pretty foxy!!! GM is seated between Angling TImes (who seemed pretty hard at it) and Rugby World which was quiet. Behind them was World Soccer which was one guy at a PC but I guess the rest are following Kaka.

I actually had tea made for me (very nice brew too) and met the whole team including Jezz and I have even seem a magical fantasy world otherwise known as the GM equipment cupboard. It really does exist and there are some real goodies in there. Even more stuff is coming in as the new products get rolled out.

Thanks to Mike and everyone for making me really welcome and if youever get a chance to go and meet the guys take it as it is a real eye opener to see exactly what goes into producing the best golf magazine. I feel sorry for a lady called Steph (hope I've remembered her name) as she is charged with layouts and will be making sense of my submissions. They are busy with printer deadlines this week but the content is looking as good as always.
