• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

Has your handicap changed yet this season?

Happy to say I'm down from 17 to 15.5 after 3 comps. Won one and came 2nd in another. Hope I have not peaked to early !!

Club changed me from 24.5 to 23.5 at season start, I have only had 2 goes on the white blocks and I have managed to keep in the buffer - which is pants as I have been playing crap of the whites, but can almost always beat my number by one or two off the yellows.

Not really had the chance to play much as I have been studying for my exams etc (mature student)Exams and coursework will be over soon so cant wait for a good cut - 18 is my aim for year end.

Expecting a cut from 22 - maybe as low as 20 following good run of cards in winter comps. Snag is all my 'best' rounds are on our Signature course which is shorter and easier than the Masters - all summer comps are on the Masters :(
Never really other than 'lower' - can't imagine being under 20, but think I would be chuffed to get there, even if it's not for long.

Started at 11.7, got cut to 11.3, buffered last weekend, but a nasty -7 in the bogey today will take me back to 11.4 for next weekends 36 hole medal spring meeting.

Season, what's that then??

I got cut on the last day of the winter mats series for shooting 2 under par when the SSS is 4 less....gits....

Since then, I've had one 0.1 (back to 11.5, thank goodness) and not moved for 3 weeks......

"RGDave, let me introduce Mr. Buffer-Zone, Mr. Buffer-Zone, RGDave"...... :)

I feel a major cut could be on the cards, 0.8 in one swoop? could be done! Still won't beat the bandits.....

Yes, mine came down from 9.6 to 9.2 and is currently at 9.3 after Saturday's sweep.
Season end target of 7.something
Atticus, seems our aims are pretty similar.
I have a problem though, my ball striking was very good in my opinion throughout winter winning several comps and aways shooting at worst my handicap. Played the first competition ok but had some bad iron shots in there. Then yesterday and last week I shanked twice and have lost all confidence when stood over anything from a 3 iron to a sw. I am totally gutted and it keeps laying on my mind about how well I was playing in the winter, shorter holes didnt matter I was actually striking well. Now Im going to have to get the sherman tanks sorted before it ruins my season before its even started.

Three rounds so far

First Stableford was Non Counting, 30 points with six no scores :o

Two medals have been buffer and up 0.1 (missed buffer by 1)

So overall up 0.1. Medal rounds had 37 and 38 putts.

If i could just find the link to the cheap Mizuno Bettinardi putters all will be fixed :D :D

Being a member of two clubs has it good and bad points. The good point is being able to play in heeps of medals, about 6 already. The bad point is when you have a bad spell your HC goes back up faster then you want. Anyway, down from 7 to 6 so far this year, sitting at 6.3 after a couple of howlers.

Down from 9.2 to 8.4 so far :), aim is 7 this season :fingers crossed:!

Been playing absolute rubbish last few months went up from 9.3 to 9.5 had a set of lessons from our pro wish i had gone to him sooner.

Played this sat shot 83 gross not great but getting better hit the buffer zone. Front nine, nine over back nine 3 over which is the harder nine to play.

Well first off, congratulations to those who've made some headway in reducing their scores & their handicap.

As regards myself, I've yet to rejoin anywhere & so my handicap I used to maintain a couple of years ago will now have lapsed. Results from rounds so far do not even hint at myself being in a position to reduce my handicap even if I were in a position to enter any comps anywhere.

Am no great golfer only playing over a year..Started with a novice membership to see if i was going to stick it out and with my first 3 cards was giving 25 handicap lol..

Then played a few novice comp last season and ended up going upto 26.0

This year join as full member been working hard on the range and putting and am now down to 21.5. Playing better now but try to get as much golf in around work and family as i can (out at least twice a week lol). My aim this year is 18 i think i should do. But time will tell. Roll on next weekend.

Received my first handicap of 16 in early March after three or four non-competitive rounds. This is over our two par 70 courses. Then played in last round of a two round club stableford competition (my first effort off the whites) and somehow managed to shoot 82 (12 over). I submitted the card (didn't count for the comp as I had missed the first round) and was reduced to 14.8, which was nice.
Played with MWJ, Leftie and others at Lydd on Saturday and probably just about played to 24! :( It's a funny ol' game...

That depends on when the season officaly starts.

We have qualifiers all year round, so since the start of the year i've gone up 0.6

One day i'll put a complete round together.
