I completed golf

David Batty. There are some very funny posts by people who have tried to engage him in football chat and he just doesn't want to know. Not rudely, he just is not interested.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto was another one. He used to get the tube to the ground, apparently he ate a croissant and a bag of crisps for breakfast and he didn't even know or care who they were playing against that week. He always said he just played football because he was good at it and it paid well.

Oooo, have that 😄. Very effective player. Knew his limitations, knew his own game, did it very well

I remember he looked so out of place when he stepped up to take a penalty in the 98 world cup shoot out. Couldn't believe he was taking the 5th kick. I was 100% convinced he would miss. And of course he did.

Batty represented the end of an era. He had a role to play in the mid-90s style of football, typical Graham Taylor style. Carlton Palmer is another example. In today's game he wouldn't get anywhere near the premier league, let alone England.

Yeah I think that's fair. Every team in that era had one 'destroyer' in the midfield. Nowadays things have moved on and every player needs a modicum of ability, even the keeper, let alone the holding midfielder.

I wonder if matey who started this thread with his big announcement has checked back in on incognito mode to see that we have brushed that off to talk about David Batty.

A bit off track but I've always thought that this guy HPIMG is Mr. Ping. Not sure there's been any mention of gold bullion. Either way. Well done on getting to scratch.

I like it when threads develop organically. If it's a focused thread like the ryder cup it needs to stay on topic, but this type of discussion is much better when left to wander, especially if the OP is a fantasist.

It doesn't even have to be sport, many parents push kids into fields they think will be high paying, like medicine, law, finance etc.. irrespective of how much the child is really interested, or enjoys the career when an adult.
I can attest to this, currently unemployed trying to change careers to something I'm more interested in because "you're good at maths and accountants make good money, you should be an accountant, we won't support you to do anything with golf and have to go to study accountancy..."

I just completed golf also!!! Shot a level par 9 holes. So I can now retire from golf.
I've also done this. It now hangs like an albatross in the middle of my 20 scores in the EG tracker preventing me getting the couple of shots a round that the other 19 rounds prove that I need!!
I'll never do another 9 hole card!

Well done - great effort 👏

I once shot 1 under par for 9 holes. Unfortunately I was 15 over for the front 9. And it was a 9 hole course so I can't say the front 9 was harder. That's golf!
I once shot 1 over on the front 9 during a proper tournament. I was off handicap 20 at the time. Proceded to have a full blown lunch at the turn, people talking me up about how much my handicap would go down if I shot level par etc. Then proceded to shoot 13 over on the second 9.... Golf huh.. The course was the Dachstein Tauern golf course in Austria. Lovely place.

Did similar couple of months back, -2 at the turn. Feeling good, got the groove on, thinking I was the man.

Double, double, bogey, double brought me back to my senses pretty damn quickly.

This was my first ever competition. The handicap secretary must have been scratching his head how to work out my handicap 🤣

Didn't he leave Spurs because he wanted to be a pornstar?
