I completed golf

Oh well, I hate to say "I told you so," but I really did.

I joined the forum a few years ago with the intention of getting to scratch after receiving my first handicap of 42. I pretty much got laughed off the forum, but I was determined. Not only that I actually met a few people in real life who, when I suggested that scratch was the end goal, seemed genuinely annoyed that I would dare to have that goal. lol.

It’s been rough at times. Just last summer, I thought maybe this sport wasn’t for me my driver was horrendous, I was stuck at a 5, and I even gave tennis a go for a few weeks.

Then I found a new coach who works with quite a few tour pros, and I’ve never looked back. That was another point I made on this forum. Again, I got laughed at when I suggested most PGA pros were stealing a living and that I was looking for a coach other pros actually used. Ever since meeting my new coach who has a few television golfers on his books I’ve never looked back.

@Voyager EMH, I know you’ve posted about how I’ve gotten on in another “quickest 20 to scratch” thread. Well, I did it: 42 to +0.1 in 4.5 years, having never hit a golf ball in my life.

Funny thing is, I still maintain that scratch isn’t that high a standard. I’ve always said golf’s a very weird sport in that it’s mostly played by really bad players.

The one you all love to hate,

I know you can't reply to this as the hammer has dropped again but that is some achievement and I'm betting very, very rare. Most scratch golfers are guys who played as kids or have been a top amateur/professional in another sport so are naturally gifted with great hand to eye co-ordination.

No idea what you did in a previous life before playing golf 5 days a week but if it was some office job etc then what you have done is very rare.

They should not have, particularly when that previous member was banned.

And then the inevitable happened..............
I didn't think his old account was banned? I looked it up this morning and there was nothing indicating that it was banned. Thought he just started a new account because everyone was taking the mick out of him.

Edit: Not indicating that he's banned on his account:

I believe creating multiple active accounts is a banning offence 🤷‍♂️

I play 5 days Monday to Fri as long as it’s not raining bad. Practice has definitely slowed this year as it’s focused more on my son now at nights after school. Take him for 9 holes 3 times a week again if dry and I have a weekly lesson to keep me from going offline.

Tremendous. I'd like to play 5 times a week, but I have a job and a family so it's not realistic. Just a fantasy!

It's a shame you don't play weekends, I guess that means you miss out on competitions. I'm not far off scratch either... only 8 mid-week general play rounds.

Did Mr Ping also get banned, or just bored with golf and lose interest?

His posts always made me laugh…perhaps @Crow Person will know

Sorry to be the boring one, boo hiss, but talking about members no longer here, apart from gentle reminiscing, is against the rules. A reminder though, if anyone does receive a warning or is banned there is an appeals procedure that is independent of the mods.

I wasn't talking about him per se, I was just wondering why you implied he was previously banned when it didn't look like he was. 🤷‍♂️ If he's banned now for having multiple accounts then that's fine.

Haha
I would say that there are a lot of sports in the UK that have this characteristic... cricket springs immediately to mind. The sports that don't are the ones where you get injured enough to weed out the really terrible (eg both rugby codes). Not sure that this is a bad thing - playing sport, however badly, is a really life enhancing pursuit.

Congrats on the achievement btw. Definitely not to be sniffed at.
