There is a massive change.
Old system card now and again
WHS some guys put five cards a week in and that’s encouraged.

Extract from “Acceptable Score Submissions for Handicap Purposes” document issued in September 2021:

• Any player who uses acceptable scores for the purpose of manipulating their handicap index will be subject to disciplinary action by the club.

How often has that happened?

I've reported something and no action was taken l.

That could explain a lot. But who did you find to complain to?

A contact of mine looked at "what two of their folk had been doing, and how their handicaps have changed over time." Let's just say it's quite obvious what is going on.

So I emailed the "Director of Golf." The reply I got was worrying to say the least.

Let's just say, other wheels are turning. I'm hoping to hear more next week.

It’s basically not provable.

Well there appears to a be bunch of players going around sweeping up wins at opens

One of the players used to play of 5 - now at 20

About one has no comps scores since 2022 yet 38 GP rounds

They have won multiple opens last year and already this year have won a big one at Porthcawl ( results still not published ) and at a recent best 2 from 4 they got 98 points - ten clear. The 20 handicap got 9 pars and a birdie

They are being highlighted in many FB groups but these posts are disappearing quickly - they are following in the illustrious footsteps of the short game wizard

If this is public knowledge, then surely competition organisers will be contacting this players club immediately??? And, if his club doesn't get him sorted, then the county unions might be getting a few e-mails

As for the chap with 38 GP scores, I think this is why a lot of Opens are now demanding a certain number of Competition Rounds must appear on the players record.

Yes, it is difficult to determine all bandits, as some will not necessarily jump to the very top of the results sheet in every comp they play, but still hover up in higher places than most. But, there are some people where the results just scream of something fishy, and these players need to be identified and stopped.

The handicap system is simplistic - it's just using an average. The world class statisticians (had they been allowed to) could have come up with a measure of deviation or, given your twenty handicapper's 38 scores, a likelyhood that he would get the 9 pars and a birdie.

Statistical methods are there that could help. But no, we put our efforts into deciding to use an unrounded number that has been derived from rounded numbers in it's calculation.

It’s a cheats charter!
It’s making genuine golfers not enter opens.
The powers that be have unleashed a very poor system and told handicap secs to sort it out for them!

It's not just golf.
