Handicap manipulation - how to address

Don't bother.
I've heard all the excuses.
New player, returning player, a hot round, blah blah.
Yes, I fully accept that every now & again someone puts in a really hot round.
But, that should be an exception.
These sorts of scores are now the norm at my club, always from players with 20+ H/C
I'm so cheesed off with it.
I'm seriously thinking of packing it in altogether & doing something else.

Join a club with comps in divisions, and the proper stuff off scratch 🤣

Fancy a game of Tennis.🎾

I’m sick of hearing all the lame excuses as well.

The facts are these things are happening.
Shooting 12 under is a joke.

Where does low handicapper entitlement begin? Below 10, 5, 0???
It can start anywhere; however, it seems to increase as the handicap gets lower and the difference in handicaps becomes wider.

Those in the GM office are moaning about double-figure handicaps; meanwhile really low handicappers are moaning about players with handicaps such as theirs, and those in the low teens are moaning about those in the 20s and 30s.

Golf wouldn’t be golf without moaning.
I preferred it when gents max hcp was 28.

Edit… nobody should be getting more than a stroke a hole in match play.

And so it will continue to be.

Today's board comp result.
83 entrants.

12 were single figure handicap.

Chap who came 10th shot his lowest gross in 2024/2025 seasons. Probably be off 5 for the next comp.

And I suspect that most of the ones who placed above him will also be playing off lower handicaps in the next competition as well. What exactly is the point you are trying to make?
Also, if only 12/83 were single figures, it stands to reason a higher handicap would win.

I posted the scores from today's comp.
It shows the highest placed single figure handicap player in the field managed to finish 10th with his best score in the last two years.

Not really a point, I suspect, that you were hoping for - merely an observation of a fact presented by me.

Maybe interesting to note that those at the top were also single figures within the last few years; and also had their best scores in that time.

Chap who finished 1st has an HI of 10.0. Played off 12 today.
5 years ago he was 8.2 (old system)
I think he will get an exceptional scoring adjustment and be single figure again.

I can't see any others from 2nd to 9th who were single figures within the last few years.

1st place was 7.3 two years ago.
2nd place was 7.7 three years ago.

Does the hard cap allow a 10 point increase in HI in three years?

Same comp 2 years ago was 23rd of July. 102 entrants.
1st place this year was 15 over par for 30 points and 42nd place.

2nd place this year was 15.2 this morning. Playing handicap of 18 (17.6)
Makes you wonder what he has been up to for last 3 years.
System has allowed him to go up by 7.5 over 3 years and today he played to 8.7
That's just 6.5 below HI so he dodges the exceptional scoring reduction.

Some players seem to exist in a very different world from me despite being at the same club.
