I'm looking at getting some new waterproofs and debating the pros and cons of splashing out on some galvins. One thing I'm troubled with is a full or half zip, my current proquip top is half zip and a little small now but are there any benefits between the two? Let me know your thoughts.

I bought a galvin top with a full zip just before Christmas after much debate and decided as I was asked to play in a team for my club that I might need it. IMO it is the best money can buy and am just waiting on the trousers coming now, I went out in roughly 30mph winds and heavy heavy rain and came back bone dry so I cannot ever see myself buying anything else now.

I'm pretty convinced, I know it's alot of money but with the guarantee and service you get from galvin it covers buying two cheaper outfits in the long term. I'm just stuck on which ones to go for! is it just a case of half zip means less zip less chance of leaks? Has anyone tried the new mizuno gear geo with the fusion seams? Oh the choices!!

On some suits the full zip can "bow" out and get in the way while you're putting. This probably wouldn't happen with a half-zip. Can't say if Galvins do this but it is a known problem with some full zip jackets

I wouldn't want to get caught in a heavy shower and struggle trying to get a half zip over my head...what a farce that would be :D

I bought a Galvin Argo half zip jacket just before christmas. Got an absolute bargain from Direct Golf, less than half price - sale price plus 20% extra off in opening sale. I've used it a few times in the last two months and immensely pleased with it.

I've had full and 1/4 zip tops before, both did the job, but I personally prefer the 1/4 zip. Absolutely no problems getting it over my head in a down pour. In fact I'd say it's quicker and easier to put on than a full zip as it's already half sealed up when it's over your head.....

Got a full zip proquip silktouch suit (currently drying out in the bathroom) and had a pair of FJ waterproof trousers and a short sleeve summer 1/2 zip top. I've manged to acquire for free (RRP £115) a new FJ 1/2 zip full sleeve top so at that price I don't really care. I have no problems with the proquip bowing and getting in the way putting and it is a great suit (£110 from clubhousegolf.co.uk) so I have enough stuff to keep me dry and don't have to panic if I play both days at the weekend about getting it dry.

At the end of the day it is about what feels comfy, does the job for you and fits into your budget. My advice is always try it on and grab a club in the shop and make some full swings somewhere to make sure it gives you enough room on the backswing AND in the follow through

The galvin top I have has a kinda lycra panel in between the shoulders.
