Ok. That's it. I've had enough.

Bought a new Odyssey White Hot 2-ball blade putter 3 years ago. But it has putted it's last putt.

Had a round on Sunday and had 41 (count 'em) putts. Been averaging over 34 putts a round since I bought it.

So, bored tonight, and discovering I had £65 in my paypal account I had forgotten about, I went straight onto e-bay and I am now the proud new owner of 3 (yes, don't mock) new second hand putters which I'll be experimenting with.

1. Ping Pal 2
2. Odyssey White Hot No.2
3. Odyssey Dual Force 550

Anyone got any of these? Comments?

P.S. Anyone want to buy the offending article, please feel free to send me a private message..... but it disnae work! :D

I also stuggled with a blade putter, and bought a £5 mallet style putter and got on far better with it. After using that for a year I went to the local American Golf store and spent over an hour trying different putters without looking at the price or how they looked. This way I thought that I would end up with the putter that suited my style of swing.

Well bugger me, I ended up with something that I didn't like the look of (at first), and something that I knew was over what the wife would be happy with me spending! (Oddessy white hot no.7, the one nick named fangs.)

There is so much choice out there and what one person tells you is good or bad may not be right for you. Put some time into assesing what works for you, with an open mind, and you will reap the rewards on the course. (Sorry not meant to sound pompous there!).

John, what about getting your hands on a isopur ping or a scotty newport pro platinum sometimes moving back to that sort of shape can be a change for the good, I ever tried a 2 ball because I know its not my putter to blame, though would never rule it out as last time I changed I did have a purple patch with it.

John, I've got the Odyssey White Steel No.2 which is essentially the same design as the White Hot, just with the steel insert instead.

I've been guilty of switching putters but have always found myself going back to this putter, after trying out other designs I defo think this one helps me deliver the most consistent stroke and WILL be sticking with it for 2008.

I hope one of the three you bought delivers you some success!

Did you get them all with your £65 - good dealing if you did. If you find your still struggling I can sell you a 43" white steel 2ball belly putter?

Euan,

I do mis-read a lot but didn't want the expense of a new custom fit putter or a Scotty Cameron (extortionate). Hoping a new head shape will help.

Oh, and I did get a putting lesson last year. It helped a lot. I was REALLY bad before that. :D

I'll never be a salesman! Mid size putter was what I really meant to say ;)

Defo some good dealing - just as well I'm a reformed putter addict or I'd be on ebay right now seeing what putters I could get my hands on lol

Hi John.
Sorry to hear about the putting probs.
In my book it must be the worse thing to go missing in your game.
Perhaps you need a heavier headed putter just to get you going through the ball.
Its a hard one to say anything about cos putting and putters are so very personal, what suits one doesn't suit another.
All i can say is you will have to practice long and hard and groove a nice stroke until you are confident in the stroke and putter. Not sure if your into putting on the carpet at home but will pay in the long run.
Best of luck and keep me posted on how it goes.

John, on a serious note I think you should think about the weight of the putter in your hands rather than asthetics. I went through a faze of bladed putters but found my distance judgement was compromised. I like the No.7 because of the feel off the face. It just feels right.

Andy,

Spot on, again. Reckon the present putter's too heavy for my quick rhythm. Going back to the more traditional styles. And I'm gonna stop that stupid hovering trick. If I have another 4 putt I'm gonna start using my 2-iron.

"A winner's putter" indeed. It looks like a basin wrench.;)

I seem to go for ugly golf gear (Cheryl and the N0.7) but I will always love my Ping Answer. It was the mutts. I seen a Never Compromise like mine today in AG for £60. I hovered and then got a pair of Realfit.

Mmm, I would keep the putter as it sounds more like the putting stroke that’s at fault.

We all have bad days on the greens, but if you average 34 and it goes to 41 then something’s wrong.

I had a word with my pro a while back……..he took one look and said my wrists were breaking down. Like tpred says a few postings above, I worked hard on the carpet, (still do) the practice green and I’m back to a good level again.

My carpet routine amounts to playing snooker. I start with my target ball 2 feet away and I putt to hit it. If I hit it, I then replace my ball to the original starting position and try again to the point where the target ball finished the first time I hit it. In other words as the target ball gets further away the harder it gets. If you miss then you have to start again from 2 feet. The good thing about my routine is you can take it to the course and use it, especially when there is a borrow. I then imagine I’m aiming for another ball at a specific distance to either side of the hole…………..it works for me.

J_F, you and the putter should part company.......41 putts! I'd make a model of it and stick pins in it for voodoo revenge!

I know they are liked in these parts, but as a fellow A blade experimentee, I'd say you are well shot.

Pal 2 is not bad, know 2 single figure players with them.

If you lived near me, I'd pop over with my new putter (and the rest of the collection) and we could try some testing.
It's such a pain....I'm well stuck on heavy mallets now....so far so good.

Am I missing something here?

Putters have a straight face, are generally used for the shortest distances with most of the swing variables eliminated. OK. They might feel different with/without inserts, heavy/light, plain finished or with squirly concentric circles, etc but at the end of the day all we have to do is line the putt up and hit the ball on the line we want. Does a Scottie for example tell you the line??

How hard? How many times a year do you use your putter both on the practice green, at home on your carpet, on the course? If you don't know how hard to hit it, does a Scottie (other brands are also available) tell you?

Call me a cynic if you want (OK don't all shout at once) but imho it's all about marketting and brand placement. Get the big boys to use it, double the price and it must better. The most important piece of golf equipment is something that can't be bought from AG, Nevada B, your pro shop, or anywhere else. A new golf brain.

Just think how many lessons could be bought for the price of a new putter.

Dave,

Sagacious words, as ever.

When the putters arrive later in the week I'll be getting all my Dave Pelz putting gadgets out to check my feedback. The stroke's not bad. Alignment seems to be the problem. Then it's out on the course to try them out for weight and feel. Might even take all 3 out one day!

Just need a change, I think.

I'm with you on this.....it's not the putter, It's the putter.......if you know what I'm saying.
