Golf Random Irritations

But, what about a social game where you are catching up with a couple of pals?
Or if you bringing a couple of friends as guests who are new to the game.

If it’s a comp that requires 4 people and you only have 3 is entirely different.
Then commonsense says you block the 4th slot off or ask the Pro Shop to do it for you or put a 4th name in knowing full well they’ll not be turning up.

Leaving a slot blank in any situation means it is available to be booked by anyone.

If you are bringing two guests there should be the option available to the Pro of blocking out the fourth space.

I think it all depends how the club works.
It’s just what you get used to.
I know of courses that will put you out with others to try and make every group a 4 ball which ensures maximum earning potential for them (normally a muni).

At my club the person who books the time (not a comp time) controls the time. It is only them that can add or remove someone.
This is how our ig is set up. I’m happy with that.
Of course, people can message and ask to join or ask at the first tee.

Which is the correct answer.👍🏻

What happens if a single books a time on their own?

Then im guessing thats their own tee time slot for themself.
As this was exactly how the system was set up at Close House when I was a member.
Also a big part of why we left too.
Putting 1 name in the slot, blocked it out, giving no other members access.
It didnt mean that person played as a 1 ball, but could if wanted.
Crazy if you ask me.
Even more so when daylight is scarce in winter.
Getting a tee time there was a total ball ache.....

When it comes to booking slots players need to look at the financial aspects of running a club.
Where I play a slot is worth £50 to the club, to insist it is not booked for a reason other than one allowed by the club then I think the club is reasonable in asking for it to be payed for.

How is it worth an arbitrary figure?

Getting bitten about a dozen times yesterday on the course. Never had a problem before at our place but this year seems to be a nastier kind of insect. Left lef got it worst and quite swollen and sore at the moment.

7 woods.....I think I'm almost done with them.
On a windless day they're great...sadly we get about 3 such days a year at my place and they're bound to be when I'm not playing.
Downwind isn't too much of a problem apart from the height and tendency to turn left...the ball gets on a gust and just goes.....
Into the wind I can hit my 26° hybrid as far....huge spin, goes nowhere..
I'll persevere for a while but the chances are that a 20° hybrid will find a way into the bag by the Summer.

It isn't arbitrary at all.

It's simple maths to work out the marginal or notional cost of a lost green fee.

How you do it depends on how the club operates.

So their notional annual membership fee is £2500ish then? I wouldn’t expect to pay that money and have randoms stuck in my group.

If I want to play a quick 2-ball before work, I definitely don’t want any extra baggage added on as it ruins my timings.

You would be lucky to do that where I play. Early morning slots are usually full within minutes of the booking time opening up. Anybody trying to use the system to book fill the slots they will not use gets made up names or leaving as anonymous gets the slots freed up well before the day of play.

The figure I quoted is the green fee cost for a visitor to play.

If a club is running it's finances well I would expect them to cost out everything, after all it is what decides the membership fees.

So visitors can add their names into/against members bookings?

I've no idea what the subs are. You said it was an arbitrary figure, which I explained it isnt.

If you want a quick game before' work that's fair enough. Both clubs I'm a member at allow you to block a full time, others might not. If they don't, they'll have their reasons. If it doesn't suit requirements, we have a choice of not playing there.

Or just a figure you made up….or do you have maths behind it? Or is it just visitor green free, which if it is, then makes the maths easy to calculate the membership fees!
