Golf Random Irritations

I've never been to a range with either, why the difference?
They are quite different things. Trackman is very technical, gives loads of different parameters and is used by pros when they are giving lessons. Also considered to be more accurate. Toptracer is less technical, but has more fun elements (games such as Go Fish and Angry Birds) for casual/non golfers. Depends on what you want as to which you prefer.

I'm really an odd ball of a golfer. I've been a member at 3 local courses (Oakdale, Ripon, Knaresborough), each has a noticeably different feel. Even though I've been back in the area for over 10 years I've still not played quite a few of the local courses, Wetherby, Harrogate, Rudding, Pannal, and others a little further away.....I keep getting told I need to play with either the Seniors or 2nd team matches, but my experience with a couple of the Senior matches is that they aren't much fun.....slow play and the required meal/speeches etc.
I have been fortunate enough to play all of the courses that you have mentioned. I think Pannal is a cut above the others and Wetherby a little lower ( but I’m perhaps influenced by the standard of the Wetherby greens at an Open a year or so ago).
I thought Rudding Park was very interesting but I wouldn’t want to walk it every day.

The ‘world’s your oyster ‘ in that location for golf.

In no particular order (or intelligence on my part.....
1. Knaresborough (my first club)-20 min drive- perfectly decent course. Nothing outstanding or bad. I wish the greens were a little tougher though.
*Clubhouse is ok but no real good views of the course.
*Big bonus for me is the large practice area with one of the old greens used for chipping and putting practice.
2. Ripon (2nd club). Quirky course that is basically 2 different courses. The old front 9 is hilly with a few nasty breaking greens. Bad tee shots on several holes will see your ball go bye-bye, although fairly short. Back nine is longer and the best 9 of all three courses in my opinion, wish the greens had a little more break though.
*Large booked rollups on Wed+Thurs mornings. Anywhere from 30 to 40+ people during the better half of the year. The layout of the course allows people to start on holes 1/15+17 to get all the people out in an hour.
*Great view of the course from the clubhouse on outside seating area.
*Downside- 25min drive each way and no practice area other than putting green, although there is a very small hitting area that is being re-done....only room for one person though. Driving range nearby, but not in good shape....only been there twice I think. I don't like spending money to practice.
3. Oakdale (3rd club). Very pleasant course during the summer.
*Most expensive at maybe £1550 for this next year
*Sloppiest course around during the winter, although several other courses aren't far behind.
*Gets pretty busy during the summer and we get blocked on quite a few days because of Opens, charity and business days.
*Smallish practice field, more than good for me unless there are other people. More than 2 people makes it too crowded.
*Best eating facility, but I rarely eat at the club so.......

-If it were closer I'd love to give Scarcroft a shot to see if I like it.....but 35+min each way is a bit harsh.
-Harrogate is considered a bit boring by most people I know.....I've never played it.
-Rudding is decent I guess, but as a resort course there have been issues/annoyances I'm told.
-Pannal, evidently not as good as it was in recent years. Removal of zillions of trees made some people pretty unhappy.

I got to hit my new Ping G440 at the range today (see things that gladden the heart). However, I arrive back home to an email from the Head Greenkeeper containing an update on the course, it's wet, and a prediction based on the weather forecast of when it might open again, definitely not next week, possibly not this month.

I really, really hope he is being ultra-pessimistic. I want to hit my new club on the course.

It’s the hope that kills you. Sunny dry day yesterday and I thought maybe just maybe…. More rain overnight and nope, still closed. So are all nearby alternatives

(not a criticism BTW - low and flat round here and all courses are definitely prone to excess water so accept it is necessary)

This is still technically a golf irritation

Golf web belts that have a bottle opener inside the buckle (there's more than you'd think)

Who's undoing their belt to open a mates bottle of beer for him!

Been doing this for years with a military stable belt. They’re the ultimate bottle opener despite not being designed for it 🤣

Royal Engineers mate compulsory uniform 👌
Since coming to the softer side it’s all about a green belt 🤣
Just read about the new RAF dress regs, agree with the dpm shirt untucked but not sure about goatees, multiple rings and ear rings and coloured nail varnish (for females). Glad I am out as still can’t get my head around beards and pony tails 😂

Don’t get me started, though I’m down with beards as I’m to lazy to shave 🤣

Though goatees should be banned in life let alone dress regs!

Wow.. Possibly not this month sounds a bit grim. 😱 I take it the ground is saturated to come to that conclusion.

Well...yesterday's dry day was a waste of time...buckets of rain this morning
Got out for 9 yesterday afternoon and there were signs, even after only 18 hours without rain, that things seemed to be improving....
Yeah right...back to square one again....
If the forecasts are right, I doubt we'll have trolleys back on until March...6 weeks of Carry Only is bonkers for our course...
What's the betting on another massively dry, hot summer..

He was looking at the forecast for this week and next when he made that prediction, though it has only rained for an hour today and the next two days are dry and sunny, so we have an outside chance of getting something open.

Not 11 and 12 though.

What you see in the picture, besides water, is a bridge and a ball washer.
