Golf Random Irritations

I've never been to a range with either, why the difference?
They are quite different things. Trackman is very technical, gives loads of different parameters and is used by pros when they are giving lessons. Also considered to be more accurate. Toptracer is less technical, but has more fun elements (games such as Go Fish and Angry Birds) for casual/non golfers. Depends on what you want as to which you prefer.

I'm really an odd ball of a golfer. I've been a member at 3 local courses (Oakdale, Ripon, Knaresborough), each has a noticeably different feel. Even though I've been back in the area for over 10 years I've still not played quite a few of the local courses, Wetherby, Harrogate, Rudding, Pannal, and others a little further away.....I keep getting told I need to play with either the Seniors or 2nd team matches, but my experience with a couple of the Senior matches is that they aren't much fun.....slow play and the required meal/speeches etc.
I have been fortunate enough to play all of the courses that you have mentioned. I think Pannal is a cut above the others and Wetherby a little lower ( but I’m perhaps influenced by the standard of the Wetherby greens at an Open a year or so ago).
I thought Rudding Park was very interesting but I wouldn’t want to walk it every day.

The ‘world’s your oyster ‘ in that location for golf.

In no particular order (or intelligence on my part.....
1. Knaresborough (my first club)-20 min drive- perfectly decent course. Nothing outstanding or bad. I wish the greens were a little tougher though.
*Clubhouse is ok but no real good views of the course.
*Big bonus for me is the large practice area with one of the old greens used for chipping and putting practice.
2. Ripon (2nd club). Quirky course that is basically 2 different courses. The old front 9 is hilly with a few nasty breaking greens. Bad tee shots on several holes will see your ball go bye-bye, although fairly short. Back nine is longer and the best 9 of all three courses in my opinion, wish the greens had a little more break though.
*Large booked rollups on Wed+Thurs mornings. Anywhere from 30 to 40+ people during the better half of the year. The layout of the course allows people to start on holes 1/15+17 to get all the people out in an hour.
*Great view of the course from the clubhouse on outside seating area.
*Downside- 25min drive each way and no practice area other than putting green, although there is a very small hitting area that is being re-done....only room for one person though. Driving range nearby, but not in good shape....only been there twice I think. I don't like spending money to practice.
3. Oakdale (3rd club). Very pleasant course during the summer.
*Most expensive at maybe £1550 for this next year
*Sloppiest course around during the winter, although several other courses aren't far behind.
*Gets pretty busy during the summer and we get blocked on quite a few days because of Opens, charity and business days.
*Smallish practice field, more than good for me unless there are other people. More than 2 people makes it too crowded.
*Best eating facility, but I rarely eat at the club so.......

-If it were closer I'd love to give Scarcroft a shot to see if I like it.....but 35+min each way is a bit harsh.
-Harrogate is considered a bit boring by most people I know.....I've never played it.
-Rudding is decent I guess, but as a resort course there have been issues/annoyances I'm told.
-Pannal, evidently not as good as it was in recent years. Removal of zillions of trees made some people pretty unhappy.
