Golf Random Irritations

Why are people going to the GP for the winter cold what is the GP going to do ?

There was an uproar about wasting GP getting a docs letter for a buggy is this not also wasting valuable GP appointments

Cos this is lots more than a cold, been going on for nearly two weeks and I have had trouble breathing.

But leave your number and I'll check with you next time!😄

So after yesterday's golf being played in shocking conditions. I have today spent a couple of hours drying everything out and going through my bag. It is the first time I have ever had to put an Hair dryer into the bag to help drying. The grips were sodden.
Missis T has just said that when I walked in yesterday I looked like a bag of crap.
Gonna hold me hands up. I don’t like eating or drinking on the course. I never have. And yet I know the consequences of that.
When it is cold like yesterday I have the bladder of a goldfish. Bulging pants, trousers and outer waterproof trousers, undoing jacket zips, taking off gloves etc is a nightmare to unleash when it is bladdering it down( pardon the pun). So I would sooner not drink.
So am stood on the 18th green with a 30 ft putt and when I looked down my eyes were flashing heads a bit dizzy and I just knew I was dehydrated.
I had a few drinks in the clubhouse and snacks, but I never felt good til later that night. So now I am taking some nuts etc with me in future and see how I go on with that. 👍

I never remember to drink enough water when it's cold. It's like I only remember to drink when I'm really thirsty and it's warm. Often at this time of year it's 6 or 7 holes in before I even think of having a drink. By the end of a round I'll have only drunk 400ml or something which is probably nowhere near enough. Even in the best case, it's only a 1 litre bottle I bring with me, even that probably isn't enough. In the height of summer I'll add a second bottle so I've got 1.75l though and generally finish it all then.

I’m not sure if I’m unusual but I never drink during a round.
If driving I’ll have a soft drink before and after and if not I’ll have a beer before and after but have never take anything food or drink wise on the course

That's crazy. You're massively dehydrating yourself. I eat a protein bar as well, usually half-way round. You have to keep your energy levels up. Do you not end up feeling really drained by the end??

It’s not really a high intense work out to require energy bars etc

During the summer people will drink more to replace fluids lost from the heat

I don’t think outside the heat I have felt drained after a single round of golf

Funny enough paying more attention to drinking and hydrating is one of the first things we teach on our cold weather courses because the human body has less idea of thirst perception due to dryer and colder winter air temperatures. Also staying adequately hydrated in winter will help you regulate core temperature better and help you feel “less cold” as poor hydration massively affects the bodies ability to self regulate so your extremities get colder to keep your core warm.

It’s a hard thing to do because it feels unnatural but we literally make people take water breaks and watch them drink until it becomes habit. I always have more water than I think I need in my bag and invariably end up drinking it all.

Pretty sure he said protein bar not energy bar they’re very different things!

They should Do the same in cold weather to but like I said above it’s not as a natural to people in the winter. Lots of little things change when people get cold it’s amazing once you get used to seeing it.

That suggest you’re doing the right things and adequately hydrated before and during. 👍

I’ve never even considered it too be honest.
I can’t say I’ve ever felt tired towards the end.
If away or playing with friends occasionally we might take a couple of beers out or if really warm if I remember might grab a bottle of water from the pro shop.
I would normally eat a meal either before leaving or at the golf club which might be breakfast or lunch depending on tee time

If you were sat at home watching TV or working, what would you drink over a 4 hour period? As guidance is 2-2.5 litres per day, based on being up about 16 hours, you should be having about 2 glasses of water in that time just sat around doing nothing.

I might at most have 1 drink.
Probably a coffee, maybe if later a beer. Often nothing.
I’m not saying it’s right just what I do.
