I had an S1 and the strap issue is correct. Thankfully they learnt from that design and future watches now have a replaceable strap. When my strap snapped I bought an S12 . 3 yrs in, very happy with it.

I also had an S1. Am sure that was the watch I tried to solder a new battery on when it failed. I nigh on melted the battery to the watch. It ended in the bin. It was at that point I knew I was rubbish at soldering.
Currently got the S12 and the strap is far superior.

Kind of an irritation...
The course is open for the 1st time since New Year's Day....carry only
1 hole is closed and our alternative par 3 is in operation...
We have "extreme weather holes" on all holes - basically a temporary hole cut on a front fringe .
It feels like -3°C out there with 20+mph winds.....there will be some idiots up there....
I don't see the point...if the course needs extreme weather holes just keep it closed until it's properly playable.
The ground is obviously very soft and it doesn't need walking on and divots being taken on tees and fairways...and I bet they won't fix their pitch marks....

Monte Rei announcing today that they are closing for 6 months over the summer for refurbishment today. The golf operator has given us options and we will be playing Ombria with a £50 refund but that must be a lot of bookings being cancelled.

You've obviously never had an S1. The strap is part of the body of the watch. It cannot be replaced. Utterly stupid design. When I was looking for a new watch, the other Garmin models did have replaceable straps - but using some weird proprietary connection meaning that new straps are £££

In the end I got a Bushnell for the simple reason its strap is held on with traditional spring pins.

I found this on another thread on this subject, it looks as if Bushnell must have changed their design too.
I have had two Garmins and have used the same after market leather strap on both as it looks less ‘golfy’ when wearing off the course, currently have the S44 which is an excellent price of kit.

I had a Bushnell Neo XS and the strap broke within 6m, so took it back to American Golf and exchanged it for a Tom Tom Golfer 2. I think as the strap is an integral part of the Neo it can't be replaced, sorry to say.

Thats why I switched as it was a good watch but was concerned it might happen again.

Good luck with fixing it...hopefully someone will have a suggestion. Guess you could use it in your pocket or fix it to your bag in some way, but not ideal.

Yes, that was my post. I suspect that a couple manufacturers have realised that an integrated strap is just asking for trouble as the strap is clearly an item more likely to fail. I was put off Shotscope if I recall rightly for the same reasons.

Seems that manufacturers have now started using replaceable straps. I am now using a Garmin and can use a standard watch strap. Have a few NATO type straps to match different shirts etc.

Many years ago I was told that what is important was having the 'frequency' of the shafts checked, the pro I was talking to said it was not uncommon to find the gap between clubs wrong primarily due to the shafts 'gaining flex' as they got older, particularly if a player always used the same club for practice.

so the fuddle lads met in the clubhouse for a cuppa today as the course was closed.

Anyway one of the lads was telling us about his £360 Garmin watch he uses for the course. The battery was losing its charge after about 14 holes. So he enquired about changing the battery. He was informed by Garmin that the battery’s cannot be changed but he can return it to them and they will give him a discount on a new watch . WHAT.
So after doing a bit of googling he finds on YouTube a way to remove the back etc etc and to put in a new battery. After an hour he has refitted a new Battery for the cost of £27. He also found online a company that will do the same job for £29 or £39.
Now there has got to be something seriously wrong with a company/ Garmin that expects you to buy a watch that needs throwing away when the battery dies. If I was buying a Garmin watch, or any other I would be asking one question.
“ can I change the battery when it dies”. If the answer is no then you can shove it.

I had the rubber cover for the on off switch split on my GPS unit . When I got in touch to order a new part I got the same reply - we will sell you an upgrade for a discount.

Realising the G430 wood I just ordered doesn't have a headcover with it. What are people doing with their headcovers?? It's not like it's that old of a club for it to have got lost along the way. Now I'll have to buy one separately at extra expense.

When I lost my driver cover I could have spent £40 on a new correctly branded one or £8 on a AliExpress/Temu branded knockoff or £0 and used an old sock or something. Went the knockoff route and I can’t tell the difference between that and a genuine one, so I’d say do that.

Yeah, I've seen one on eBay I might grab. No biggie, just annoying.

The course has been closed since our last heavy snowfall on the 3rd, but the snow had gone and the ground is slowly thawing, so it seemed reasonable to assume that it could reopen midweek.

I woke up this morning to find a nice fresh 2 inches covering everything. It's probably ruled out the range as well, as I can never see the ball against the white stuff, meaning the only feedback I get is knowing I hit the ball but with no idea where.

They are forecasting 10 degrees on Monday. Snow and ice will be gone, but it will be awfully wet.

Sounds like my Dr, I’ve barely slept since Thursday and feel like death but magic paracetamol and rest will help it go in a few days yet I have to be out working tomorrow

Why are people going to the GP for the winter cold what is the GP going to do ?

There was an uproar about wasting GP getting a docs letter for a buggy is this not also wasting valuable GP appointments

Our club failing to update the course status on the website or HDID but updating BRS and not sending any comms.

Who checks BRS before they play? Especially when a reminder email for tee times is sent the day before.

Well I’m going because I have to otherwise I will be expected to go and sleep in a tent at -29° for 6 days as part of my job. Without the Dr sign off I have no recourse not to do it
