Golf Random Irritations

I don't know why the mullet is associated with the 1980s.

As early as 1972 that hairstyle was sported by the likes of Paul McCartney (and Linda), David Bowie, Rod Stewart, David Essex, Dennis Law, Charlie George and Rodney Marsh.

People who think when dropping from GUR, that they don't have to do it and when told they do, believe it is not the nearest point of relief, but somewhere about 20 yards away on the fairway where they have a shot to the green

But you don’t have to drop unless you have LR in place,

Relief from GUR does not require a LR. It is in the Rules of golf already.
The point I was trying to make is that relief from GUR is indeed in the RoG and is it optional to take it or play as it lies, unless there is a LR in place that states a particular (or all) GUR is a No Play Zone.

Unless you are this particular chap who they don't apparently apply to. :( It's the same as when he scored a nine on a hole, he thought it was a seven.

I thought this was the case.. so we have GUR and a sign ā€œmust not be played under any circumstancesā€
But it’s a free drop, nearest point of relief .. and it’s the nearest point of relief that can be interpreted quite differently.
The thing here is to make sure the marker is happy with the decision and reasoning.. after all they are signing or attesting your card was a round played to the rules ( yes I know there are cheats- there will always be it’s the beauty of humanity)

When you plan to paly golf Saturday morning, change it due to weather forecast to Sunday evening - only for the weather to not play ball.

Saturday morning - lovely for golf
Sunday evening - rain showers

Class.....

Moral of the story - never trust the weather man!

I played in a County Members Open last year at a course that I can’t remember the name of at the moment. They had a sign close to the first tee that stated that ā€˜All GUR is No Play Zone’. I had previously read the Local Rules which didn’t have a GUR/NPZ rule in them. I queried it with the starter, who by chance, was their Club Captain. He double checked the LRs and confirmed what I had discovered.

ā€œSo what’s the rulingā€ , I asked.

ā€œ Don’t worryā€, was his reply, ā€œthere is only one GUR on the course, you won’t go near itā€.
