Golf Random Irritations

Whilst it was a lovely round today.. and made it a 3 ball half way round with a pro I've played with before.. it was blooming annoying to be stuck behind a 4 ball (we were a 2) who we caught up on the 3rd hole and we would take our time on holes and still appear on the tee as they finished teeing Off. Didn't invite us through once.

We teed off 20 mins behind them and caught them on the 3rd hole that's pretty pathetic considering we were off the black tees and them off yellows (and they did strike good balls just blooming slow)
Why not just ask to play through

I assume by the fact they weren't invited through it was either asked and ignored or never going to happen
Everytime we walked up they just walked off. Even politely waited on 2 par 3s for them to finish their tee off then we walked up and they just walked on. Kept looking back but never offered or waved through

Considering on 11 the pro joined us to make 3 we still were right behind and he commented how they should be offering by now. He had to wait 10 mins on 1 tee as obviously he can ping it 300 yards and they took forever to take their shoots from the fairway

On 16 they were waiting on tee not hitting. Into wind 350 yards.... waiting for the green... as the pro said .. they don't travel that far on holiday

As you had the pro with you he was the ideal person to educate and spread the wisdom. If he can’t even do that then what is the hope for the rest of the club?

He's not the club pro. He's a normal member who is a pro out of another club.

I only know him from playing in a pro am a few years back.

Played this morning. Nice early tee time.

Got to the 3rd tee, a par 3, and saw a group on the green, another group waiting behind the green for the 4th tee to clear, a group on the 4th tee and a further group just setting off down the 4th fairway. All this at a few minutes before 8am.

The cause? One of our greenkeeping staff, on green mowing duties today, had inexplicably done the (empty) back nine first, and then started on the front nine just ahead of a packed tee sheet.

We cut across to the 9th and then played the back nine. So we missed out on a round in glorious weather. The group which started in front of us reached the turn in 2 1/2 hours, with huge bottlenecks on almost every tee behind them. None of this ever happens during the week generally.

On speaking to the course manager afterwards it transpires the club are having issues with this one member of staff who seemingly does as he pleases and fails to do what is asked of him by the head greenkeeper. All caused because he has got the arse about not being offered the head’s job when our previous head greenkeeper moved on.

Odds on him getting the job in the future, or indeed keeping his own, are lengthening by the day.

Had a 1612 tee time this evening, straight from work, clubs out the car, hit a few putts, check my phone at 1600 and there's a notification that I'm meant to be DJing at a party that starts at 5pm.

Cue a massive rush to get my stuff back in the car, get home, pack my car with my equipment and then drive to the venue and get set up on time ......I somehow did it but I was very close to just sacking the gig off.

Should have sacked it off! Golf is far more important than anything lol 🤣

No rain for a month has seen our fairways go from soggy to bone hard
Were now playing midsummer conditions on fairways that haven't really started growing yet.
Patches of hard pan surrounded by patches of thin grass...
Your strike has to be spot on to get any sort of flight and then on landing you take your chances with the bounce and run...
Not a lot we can do about it but it makes the game irritating right now...and the bloody wind is from the worst direction....

Our greens are desperate for water but because of low overnight temperatures they are not being irrigated. Elsewhere we are in the same boat as you - the lack of growth is causing real issues, especially around the greens where the grass is very patchy. We effectively now have winter lies there but with hard pan rather than wet mud.

And with no rain forecast for the next week it’s not going to improve.
