Golf Random Irritations

The course closest to me is still free for reciprocals. Which....because we get knocked off the course a LOT during the coming good months would be a deal breaker for me if I then had to go to another course and pay (anything) to play. It must be a money maker for the club, but if I can't play on my own course once a week.....that's a big no-no for me. The further course that now requires a payment doesn't have so many events going on so it's not such a big deal to me.
Why do you get knocked off the course? When we were in the middle of the race course at Ascot we lost every race meeting and 10 days for Royal Ascot.

My club has bought new pins for the season. Normally something to rejoice but they have decided to go for pins better suite to javelin throwing or clubbing someone over the head. They are so thick and heavy it's ridiculous. I tend to putt with the flag in but even I can see that the chances of a bounce out are bigger with these ☹️
We've done the same as we were getting too much hole damage from people trying to flick the ball out with the slim ones and folks using gizmos on the end of putters getting the ball out.
Also had to send 8 back over the 2 years we had them as they kept getting bent so not standing straight.
On a recent factory tour they admit they're now strengthening the slim ones

Strangley we had new flags in this weekend. Assuming for the new season but a very thin base to them but they seemed perfectly stable in the 25-30mph gusts

I've played at lots of clubs with the tapered bottom pins and the only way you get a bounce out with them is if you have walloped the ball. With the thicker one, they fill so much of the hole, it doesn't take much for the ball to hit and stay up. If I am putting first I always leave the pin in. I am less likely to do that with these.
I thought the same - the thicker the flagstick the less room there is between that and the edge of the hole. Thinner ones also seem to recoil and absorb more of the blow, take the sting out of the ball so it drops.

I am still a flag outer although there was one in our group (4BBB) insisted onhaving it in all the time. Royal pain having it out and then back in

We don’t ever see the flag Hokey Cokey anymore - anyone who wants it left in will normally go first

Always a way to work around it
We play ready golf and I am quite a quick player. That means I am on the green and ready to go before the others most of the time. In that situation I will go first, leave the flag in. Once the flag comes out, I don't ask for it back in, I'm not that bothered. I do think it is ironic that flag out people seem to blame flag in people for wanting it back in when the whole process is started by them asking for it out. You start the hole with the flag in, flag out people are the ones mixing things up.

I just find it distracting not seeing the whole hole to aim at
