Golf Random Irritations

I only had 29 putts for my round on Saturday, but that included missing a 6 inch tap-in, and three-putting from about 12 feet on the final hole when I almost missed the ball on the first one and sort of whiffed the top of it. Is it really that hard to concentrate for every single shot?
Thinking about that post round drink? ;)

Was happy to shoot what I thought was my best ever round of 81 yesterday.
A friend recorded it on EG - I didn't. I went through the scores last night and realised he'd entered two of my scores incorrectly. I actually shot 79. I broke 80 for the first time and didn't bother recording it, so I guess it doesn't count. That'll teach me not to record my recreational scores on EG.

Yes. Especially putting for me. I always switch off when the ball is on the green and even more so for the second putt. Mostly just playing social golf has made me very sloppy.

Yes! I'm not the only one to have topped a putt! 😂

Yeah, honestly, daft. I'd putted so well for most of the day, and on other recent rounds tbh. As mentioned I was thinking about a birdie and forgot it needed hitting, lifted out of it and only hit the top half of the ball I think. Left it 4 or 5 feet short - and then missed the next one as well leaving a tap-in bogey.

BUT! Did you follow it up with immediately having to use a ball retriever to get your ball out of a bin!? Because I've been there and it was not a proud moment...

Err nope. If I tried to throw my ball in the bin I'm sure I'd have missed that as well.

I was using the ball cleaner and as I pulled the handle up the ball flew up and bounced down and into the bin. Good job I was alone, couldn't believe it. Although it's nearly happened again since!

There's a course down the road from my house which isn't particularly great but does have a decent practice area consisting driving range, chipping area, practice bunker and putting green all open to members / non members, all in all a good one stop shop for some practice and a few beers on a nice evening. It's just announced that the chipping area & putting green will now be members only.

Ok, not the biggest injustice in todays world but mildly irritating as I'll have to drive 30mins to my home course for some practice (or not bother!)

So you were using it for free before? How much is their cheapest membership option? 😄

I'd just like to say that 29 putts around Grims Dyke is a major achievement.
Some (no, make that most) of their greens are evil b***ards.

Topping a couple of rescue clubs yesterday, something I haven’t done in years. I wouldn’t have minded but it was the only times that there was water in front of me. The water would not normally be in play (for me) as it was only 50 yards away. 🤬 Stupid game.

I have a very much love/hate, but mostly hate, relationship with my 22 degree hybrid. Topped most of the time or a lovely ball flight (usually straight into trees, admittedly)

Last Weds I shot an 81 on our East course, including a triple on the first (score differential was 6.6) - technically my best ever round. Putting wasnt great, but was brilliant tee to green, irons were excellent.

Played a new course this weekend - hit TWO greens in regulation - the first being on the 15th (which was actually a par 5 in two). Couldnt hit an iron all day. However my short game and putting was amazing - I had just 12 putts on the front nine.

Golf

I can relate to this. I tend to thin rather than top but ratio of good to bad is not great. The good gives a wonderful feeling of satisfaction and makes such a difference on a hole but the price to pay inbetween of tosh is high ☹

Caught in a cycle of knowing I need to practice with it, but then getting annoyed when practicing because I can't hit it...

It's frustrating because a lot of people claim that they're so easy to hit and said people get really good distance out of them with relative ease.

I cannot fix my slice, my driving last year was great, got myself down to 14, now back up to 17.5 and climbing all because my driving is shocking.

Have you considered a mini driver? Honestly it’s been a total game changer for me. I still hit bad shots obviously but they are much much fewer than with a standard driver and I can’t say I’ve lost too much distance either.
