Whilst I agree £539 is too much for a jacket, didnt you go through several of the cheaper options as they werent waterproof?

I haven’t personally, you can get Goretex jackets for a quarter of the price if you shop around. My FJ Hydroknit was just over £100 and has seen me through 2 bad winters so far with zero issues 👍

Nah, just one Cutter & Buck one that I tried because it had a hood - and that was only like 20 quid. Sent it back, got a refund.

My UA jacket that has served me well for 3 years was a £35 job from Ebay, but typically would have cost £80 I imagine. Sunderland & ProQuip jackets get decent reviews also, and I've seen them for £30 and £50 on County Golf today.

How much of that are you paying for the name?

Standard these days when people buy items that a lot is in the name , GG are very good and you do pay a bit more because they are GG and Goretex

A few days ago I said this:
I can only guess that South West Water have brought in management from the rail industry, and that all the stuff that's been falling out of the sky is the wrong kind of water.
It was intended as a joke.

Today in Devon Live, I see an interview with a hydrogeologist from South West Water, who said:
"But when the ground dries out over time it forms a barrier so rainfall runs straight into rivers rather than seeping into the ground. This is why, even with heavy rainfall, as has occurred recently, we describe it as the 'wrong kind of rain'."

The price of Golf clothing.
Trousers are either reasonable but 100% polyester or expensive and cotton/polyester mix.

I'm going to get some stretchy chinos from Next for £22 and see what they're like..

Thought I'd been playing alright lately, but not as well as one particular round from 18 months ago, so up I go from 13.5 to 14.0. Dumb system. At least it's just in time for the matchplay knockouts.

You haven’t really gained anything have you or does your course handicap split between 13.5 and 14?
Not sure.. might still only get 13 shots in singles comps, but I'm in a couple of pairs knockouts where it's split the difference for shots so might get us an extra one. Who knows.

Rain, rain, rain, rain and more rain. The course remains open but all the fun is being sucked out of golf by the damp, soft conditions and the extremely long course.

I sometimes wonder if the next sunshine I see is on next month's holiday.

Picked some of the Next Chinos up for £24 (not £22) and for the money, they are good. Good amount of stretch, loads of colour and size options. I was looking at some Travis Mathew trousers but they only sell in waist sizes, so if you're shorter legged like me, you need to pay someone to adjust them...and they charge you £99 for the privilege.

Scorecards with boxes that'll easily take a size 10 font but the stoke index, par etc, is in a size 5 font

It's discrimination I tells ya

I only had 29 putts for my round on Saturday, but that included missing a 6 inch tap-in, and three-putting from about 12 feet on the final hole when I almost missed the ball on the first one and sort of whiffed the top of it. Is it really that hard to concentrate for every single shot?
