Golf Random Irritations

People referring to the person they have lessons with as “my coach”. What a pretentious way to refer to the club pro.
It what if the Pro refers to themselves as a coach 🤔

Also isn’t it true that person is being coached to become better so by default he’s technically correct 🤔

I’m just pulling your chain mate it’s been a slow night 😉🤣

Our committee have introduced lift, clean and place on fairways and closely mown areas for the winter, totally ignoring the fact that, because the greenkeepers are letting the fairways grow to allow for an even cut after the dry summer, there is very little definition, if any, between fairway and first cut on most holes.

Despite a deluge of complaints they have dug their heels in and refused to suspend it for a couple of weeks, despite tomorrow seeing the last board comp of the year. Their belligerent stance is all the more baffling given there is very little need right now to be introducing the rule.

So what does a golf pro do?
Depends on the lesson or frequency of the lesson. If it’s a first time getting the basics grip, stance, posture then I’d say they’re teaching.

For an experienced player seeing them regularly I’d argue they’re coaching. By definition for me I’d say they’re a coach and I’m looking for someone next year for exactly that coaching 👌

Probably just mind blown some 🤣

Not saying you’re wrong but sometimes, if there’s a sudden change in the weather, the night time temps really start to impact what the grass is doing. If growth has really slowed down there’s hardly enough time before the really cold temps set in for the fairways to recover from a tough summer.

It’s a hell of juggling act, sometimes not helped by a very cautious green keeper.

We went to winter rules on 1 October. Totally unnecessary, dry conditions and I’ve not needed to clean or move my ball once so far this month.

My irritation? One playing partner marking, cleaning and placing his ball on every hole. I know it’s his right, and I understand he wants a perfect lie, but it adds time and makes no difference when our fairways are looking great and with no mud balls.

My irritation is Northumberland and its lovely golf courses. As I’m up with the whole family + dog there was certainly no space in the car for golf clubs. To rub things in, I can actually see Alnmouth (Foxton Hall) from the window of where we are staying and went for a nosey by walking the public footpath through it. Looks in great nick and an extremely pleasant way to spend 3-4 hours, but I won’t be doing any of that 😭.

Will have to have dinner at the Fishing Boat Inn tomorrow just to make myself feel better.

Isn't your irritation:
1. your dog for taking up space
2. your car isn't big enough
3. your family

:ROFLMAO:

The clubhouse is open to visitors for the bar. They get a lot of walkers in having teas, coffees, a bite to eat. I'm not sure about dogs inside, defintely fine in the very nice, rose garden, but humans are all okay :).

Don't be put off by the 10th hole, along the driveway. Worst hole on the course and that is one that people obviously see first of all.

Might be worth popping into the shop and asking if they can rent you a set of clubs.

I was in the pro shop of a local NE club this morning. After reading your post, I asked them if they rented out sets of clubs. They don’t advertise it, but they do rent clubs out at £15 per round.

The 3-ball I was in this morning getting a sarcastic slow handclap from one of the ladies in the group behind us after we finished putting out on the 3rd hole.

I think they were trying to intimate that we were playing slowly. Yes we had a bit of a mare of a hole between the three of us (two provisional's off the tee but the original balls found pretty quickly...albeit deep in "chip out only" territory) but we were up with the pace of play and there was no need for what she did.

That’s just pure arrogance and disrespect. Hope you had a word with her saying as much, as long as you were up with the pace of play that’s all that matters but regardless there’s no need for being rude !

Going through one of the worst stretches of golf......3 months ago 4.6.....now 7.1 and only going higher. Thinking about getting one of those really big plastic kids drivers to try...... Going down to hit a few balls in the morning. Might try the happy gilmore...

Do you ever video yourself at the driving range to see if you're doing anything different or unexpected? That was a turning point for me.

Can you put your finger on why?

With me it’s normally my short game and putting.

A good player never loses their swing overnight.

Maybe try the opposite and don’t play at all for a week or so? Could you be trying too hard and overthinking the swing? A few weeks off might be the thing to clear all the dodgy swing thoughts.
