Golf Random Irritations

I'm away this weekend, golf trip to the west coast of Scotland with a small group of 6. Normally we travel 2 per car but for a range of reasons I'm going in a 3. My car isn't big enough so we are going in another person's. It's a very nice car, LR Discovery, so that isn't the issue.

The problem is, on a trip like this, will be chilly, very wet on one day, I like to pack for every eventuality. I'll over pack clothes, extra golf balls, various gear, but it isn't my car this time. I'm wondering how much I can get away with, can I fit in extra stuff in my own footwell? I'd prefer to drive myself but that wouldn't be right on this occasion.

Can only imagine it was a deflection tactic rather than just admitting I went to earn a massive amount of coin!!
It's remarkable how many people move to Dubai and then feel the need to tell us how wonderful and so much better it is to live there. They could never think of moving back, until they do 🙄.

Easier way to do it without taking more baggage. Google the “Ranger roll” method. You’ll be surprised how much space you can save and how much you can pack into the smallest of bags. Everything from T-shirts, trousers, jumpers and goretex jackets can be filled that way for space efficiency.

I use it all the time for work and when going on holiday, means you can take maximum amount of clothing in the smallest possible space. Wanna take it even further get some compression sacks off Amazon and squeeze it down even more.

Think an extra sports bag will fit nicely in a Disco - unless the other 2 are also overpacking :)

I’ve often thought about moving abroad when I finish up and that sort of the world would be the last place I’d go. I quite fancy the Italian hills or a nice African island away from the world as long as it has a golf course.
He has said this week the average player in the league is only on £2000 a month. If he was going purely for money then he picked the wrong league - should have picked Saudi.
The average player yes. But guarantee he’s on more than that and paying zero tax.

I've no problem with anyone moving away and I hope the move is a happy one for them. It's the need to denigrate their home country I dislike. It's usually a generalised and selective view, as his very much was in this interview.

Moving abroad for the average Joe comes with its own stresses. Lots of research helps, especially including the different tax rules. For example, if you get residencia in Spain THEN sell your U.K. home you’re liable for a hefty chunk of tax. Another unforeseen issue for many is the climate. Your February is our August. You’ll hide away and have the heating on. We’ll also hide away most afternoons in August and have the aircon on.

7 years ago the difference in the cost of living was huge in pretty much every aspect. Not so now. Our supermarket shop has more than doubled since we moved here in Feb 2018. Some things, like veg & fruit is more expensive here, but we’re still quids in for things like council tax(around £210 a year) and electricity(£65 per month).

As for denigrating the U.K., I guess I do. I hate the U.K. climate most of the year. I’d add in its crowded and eating out is crazy expensive. I couldn’t have retired early in the U.K. because of the cost of living. That said, if it was warmer & dryer I’d probably still be in the U.K.

Will I ever move back? Never say never but I’d rather stay here.

To be fair it doesn’t bother me people denigrating the home country. They’re entitled to that view if they believe it and genuinely feel they’ll have a better life elsewhere. In truth I probably agree with many of the reasons they say about, I’m very non plussed about the place myself there’s certainly so many better places to be than the UK especially now.

Cost of living here is becoming a joke so I’d rather be where the weather is better , the foods fresher (hopefully) and the scenery doesn’t come with a constant grey shade and threat of peeing it down 🤣

My other thing as well when I finish up what I’m doing I wanna retire/part retire early and enjoy what the world has to offer. I like you am not convinced that’s much of an option by saying here long term.
