Golf Random Irritations

Really hit home how stupid our course ratings are now and how difficult it's going to be to get my handicap down to a decent level - played really well, shot 83, but that's come back as 17.3 score differential. 😵‍💫 (It used to be 15.8 which is bad enough.)
My index is 17.0, I've been between 16 and 19 for years, I am a 16-19 handicapper.
However, I've worked out that if my handicap was only based on the twelve rounds at my 'home' course, I'd be 23.9. It's short but it's not easy and yet the slope is only 106 and the course rating is 3.6 under par. It's impossible to score well there unless you play there all the time and accept that your handicap will creep inexorably up. Luckily I only play there about six times a year, it's 'home' in name only. Players who have handicaps based solely at that club must be devastating when they play team opens!

Exactly the same here. Short course, but tight, tree-lined, and right is dead on about six holes, which is not ideal if you were battling a slice for a year like me. The greens are all mad as well.

Had a 4-putt yesterday on 2nd green, glad it happened on a solo practice round though. At least its out of the system for a while

cut back though the Great Glen way through the Kings on Friday evening on my bike with the dog. They had been cutting the overgrown gorse. there were hundreds of ball just lying there. had no means of taking any of them. all gone now

I had one on Saturday, born out of frustration and playing tennis over the hole though

Just hit a 6 iron off the tee no? Everyone is always telling us it's better to be on the fairway but further back..

Depressing, as well, when you score better. That's why I'm loathe to enter any 3-club comps! 😂
Yep, my mate hates our 3rd, 340y par 4, OOB left, trees right but reasonably wide fairway. He got fed up making a total hash of it taking the driver then 3w (in the sea to the left was his usual trick), he now plays it 9i, 9i, 56 and more often than not walks off with the par when others are scrambling for bogey after hitting driver…

Funny game indeed.

Turned up at the course this morning to find 6-8 GK's working on the range so couldn't hit more than wedge so decided to do short game till they got done... then it rained. 10 mins later I'm round at short game then 4 GKs turn up to start working there... back to range... then it rained again. Eventually hit my bucket and go to putting greens, get started.. .then it rained

All very stop start when i really needed to get a good practice, will try again tomorrow

I don't believe I would score better though. If you're taking an extra shot to reach every green then your chipping and putting has to be perfect, or else you're making double bogeys. I'd maybe score better if I putt the lights out one day.

Decisions abut buggies are taken at 6 in the morning with no review later in the day.

So with all the early morning frosts there are restrictions.
By the middle of the morning the reason for the restrictions has gone but we still have to abide by them.

That’s why we review every day at 10

But if it’s ok before that the Course manager will adjust earlier

I was on the committee when the new course manager was appointed and a request was made that he do it and he said no.
The previous manager always did it. They go in for a tea break at 10 so not that much extra work in my opinion as they in their office at that time.

Guessing this was tongue in cheek but I don't fancy hitting hybrid or woods for all my approaches. 😂

I heard that Grims Dyke had lots short par fours around 300 yards where you need to hit a long iron or hybrid off the tee then a wedge. Not many holes where driver is the best option.
