I remember back in the day when spikes were plain screws the pro advising a small bit of Vaseline on the screw when the shoes were new to stop it seizing.
Mind you he must have sold a lot of single spikes as they often unscrewed whilst playing.
Yeah, I don't mind them being a bit tough to remove if it means they don't fall out.

I've been looking forward to playing tomorrow all week. My wife is away for the weekend, my pp wife is also away. No rush, golf, a snack after. An email came through just before advising that based on the rain yesterday and the forecast for tomorrow, course closed until Sunday at the earliest. I have no issue with the decision, it's the right one. I was just looking forward to it 😔.

Well done to those clubs with a simulator, great investment in situations like this.

They closed the entire golf facility here yesterday evening (for today) so staff did not have to drive in, as well as members and visitors.

After the last storm the course was closed for a day and half to allow for all the tree debris to be cleared from the course.

We are closed because of previous rainfall, however, there’s not a breath of wind at the moment …….but it’s due this afternoon

Yeah some special green fee rates have been arranged at 'local' courses (all about an hours drive) so that's something I guess
Since i'll be 'working' at the tournament the closure period should pass quickly for me. I have tee times booked for last playing day and then boxing day when it reopens

Caddying?

The club have a cart ban at the moment to keep fairways in top notch condition. Carts are still used but must stay on cart path with players using the 90 degree rule. GPS stops them taking onto fairway too
The annoying thing is the amount of players that don’t take the bottle of sand/seed mix with them when they park up, grab clubs and hoof it across fairway to play their shot

What's the point? Surely easier to walk

Using carts is so commonplace (often mandatory) players don’t usually have their own trollys, so walking also means carrying. Wife and I carried for front 9 intending to do whole round but it was so silly hot that even we got a cart for the back 9

There’d be players dropping like flies with heat exhaustion if they tried walking 😰

Can you get caddies locally?
That’s what I did in India. I think I paid the guy the equivalent of a tenner.

One course uses them (young lads with little interest in golf ) but a lot of the members, tourists & expats would still not want to walk even with a caddy

Most just have a fleet of 50+ carts and it gives them an additional revenue stream that caddies don't (plus its easier to sell on course drinks to players in a cart than it is to sell to walking players, so more income there)
Then there's the 12km walk needed to play a round of golf, pace is gonna suffer so less tee slots to sell (some chunky walks green to tee)
Last thing off the top of my head is most comps here are shotgun start so lunch & drinks can all be done at same time (more money) & just getting out to starting tees would take too long

Fair enough. The walks between holes can be very long on resort courses.

The dreaded shanks

I managed to go to the range before eldest got sick

Anyways majority shanks was blooming frustrating, what was more annoying was every say 5 shots I'd hit a pearler. I just can't stop finding the hozel

I know it's my grip I just need to get it sorted

Went par 3 after, fat shots. Very annoying. However my wedge was on point? Made no sense. I'd fat a iron to 30 yard short. And then 54 degree to 2 foot and par. What is that!

The second to last hole I teed up, hit a PW to 5 foot and then thought right let's do that again

Didn't tee up the next two

Shank

Shank

Oh please do one

Much like car parks why is it when your at the range.. about 3 people there. You set yourself up with a mirror bay, not near anything so plenty of bays for people to use.

Why is it that someone decides I know this bay next to mine is the one to use. With no mirror

I just don’t get mirror bays!

If your looking in a mirror your posture has changed and so does your swing.

Better using video on your phone.☎️

I had the tripod set up ready to video but I was getting so annoyed with my swing and focusing on getting the grip right I didn't bother lol 😂

One of them days!
