Todays scramble at my own club. Glad I’m not playing in it as the current leaders are 24 under par. And that’s on greens that were hollow tined this week. 😳

What have they done with the rough at your place? Looks really nice but it’s so penal now 😱
The rough at my course is really lush and thick this year - very grabby. Presumably due to all the rain we had in July. Grass on the fairways seems thicker, too. I'd guess it will be much the same all round the country.

Yesterday's comp was cancelled due to rain whilst I was out on the course. Correct decision no issue. There should be an automatic refund to my card of the entrance fee but it doesn't happen. I'll have to message the pro shop, they will apologise and add it back on, but really I shouldn't need to. It's only a small thing but it does irritate.

Was meant to play this morning with a mate for a friendly knock. Last game for two weeks as off away on holiday tomorrow. Biblical rain for a couple of hours meant we never even got the clubs out of the car. What we just had is probably on its way to Wentworth.

Three of us got stuck behind a 4 ball yesterday and waited on most shots from the 3rd hole onwards. 10th hole 3 of them knobbed it 50 yards and just walked up to their balls while we stood on the tee box behind them looking amazed. 11th hole they all walked into the pro shop, got a coffee then teed off as we walked up to the tee box. Course was empty I think we were the only groups out there so absolutely no excuse. I snapped and asked one guy if we could play through, the look on his face was brilliant, like I’d asked him if I could sleep with his wife. Anyway they reluctantly let us through and we blasted past, we gained 2 holes on them before they’d tees off on 12.
Hate people like that, miserable fools who think they own the place.

We played a course last week as a fourball. The very helpful Pro told us that the group in front had gone out ages ago and that we had a clear run. However, while stood on the 4th tee we spotted two fourballs on an adjacent fairway. We didn't know it at the time but the hole was the 5th and we were catching them at a rapid rate of knots.
While playing the 5th one of the lads noticed that one of the groups was actually a five ball and the other a three, then the closest of the groups became a six ball and our heads began to explode. When we finally caught them up at the 7th common sense had prevailed and they had reverted to two fourballs and while still slow that had quickened considerably.

What they were doing I'll never know. They were members and I got the impression that this was some kind of weird, unique format that they did regularly. I'll never know.

Played with two mates today and we let a two ball through on the 6th as they were right up behind us. On the 9th we had to ask to get back through them and we then outpaced them by more than 2 clear holes.

How the hell did that happen?

We played at The Astbury the other week and pace of place was decent enough for the front 9 (2hrs) considering we were following a charity day. However, on the 11th the group in front of us (A) got let through by the group in front of them (B) (who were obviously beginners) - the group that had been let through then joined up with the next group ahead (C) and become a 7 ball (A+C)!

Given this was a twilight round it was particularly galling that they had such little respect or consideration for those behind them. We had the first twilight tee time and should have comfortably got round based on the front 9 but it ended up playing the 18th in the dying light and the groups behind us were effectively playing it in the dark.

Whoppers.

The bunkers at my new club. They have been re-done this summer - which is great. Or is it? The amount of sand they've poured in them is an absolute joke and makes them practically unplayable more often than not as the ball will be plugged so deep in the sand that you can barely see it.

Do we have any greenkeepers here? If so, is it standard practice that you add too much sand and that it settle/sits down eventually? There are quite literally dunes within the bunkers where you can dig your heels down 6-7 inches to take your stance.

Rain , rain and rain

That’s a heck of a downpour and hopefully it doesn’t close the course tomorrow for a charity day
