Just think during the time of the year and to keep it relaxed etc a stableford comp would be a better fit that's all

I have a feeling that Fish will be along in a moment with a post that involves the words Burnham, 18th, and NR, but I'm going to say this anyway. Would the outcome of this year's comp have changed (either the final or any of the qualifiers) if we had been playing Stableford? Val is right, the final was slooooww and we need to work out how to avoid a repeat of that.

While we're talking about format, a couple of thoughts from me:
- If you want to play in more than one qualifier as I did this year you should have to pay more than one entry fee. Perhaps half price for 2nd/3rd entries? No reason why people shouldn't be able to just treat qualifiers as a meet though and not enter.
- Qualifiers need to be one just one day, I thought the Midlands thing of having multiple dates was a good experiment but actually during the winter the course and the conditions are way too variable.
- Virtuocity, hope you are able to find the time again because you did a superb job this year! I'll be entering regardless of what is decided on format.

OC I agree with nearly everything you've said, mainly because they have been echoed by a lot of last year's participants.

If I was taking charge again, I would be asking that you pay £10 entry for every qualifier.

I would prefer stableford throughout, personally, what does everyone else think?

Also, I have had a good few comments from people about ensuring that qualifiers are held on one day.

Only if they have official congu active handicaps, otherwise your left wide open, but I thought it was about finding the forum champ?

Last years was a great first effort, why not see if the are more forummers who give it a go again, before inviting others.

The regional events done ok, and the finals day, was spot on, may be bigger again this time.

Don't want to sound negative, as you are potentially taking on a great burden. Good luck, BTW.:thup:

I played in the London KOK at Ealing thanks to Jimbob and would be up for playing in it again. Not fussed if its strokeplay or stableford to be honest. I will go with the flow.

Personally think medal is fine for Club competitions, but society events which effectively is what we are, should be stableford. I would normally happily host an event at my Club, but the thought of a medal competition and long rounds would put me off.

What is key however, is that the word 'knob' was written in shaky handwriting. The type you find in a card from your granny.....:

Having knocked my first ball OOB at Camberley this year, I would prefer stableford Great event though and really enjoyed the day after I got going.....the NR threat was never far away which added to the pressure and perhaps made me enjoy the golf a little less than I hoped on a lovely course. Great company though and Chris should be ashamed of himself for vandalising Homie's ball

To be fair, on finals day at Hillside we probably unwittingly chose one of the windiest days of the spring/summer. It was tough going and the rough being as it was for their upcoming open didn't help us chompers one bit.

That said, I'm still inclined to agree that a stableford format provides a far better atmosphere before and during and in my experience would help people play better, under less pressure.

Perhaps jumping the gun a little but If it does evolve again next year, no matter where finals day will be, it's proven that people will travel so as a previous poster pointed out, 'golfing value for money' as well as being able to enjoy the day is essential. Lets be honest, the majority of us turn up to play a nice course, in great company and if it goes well on the day, we might even win sommat.

And although the last venue was central (UK wise) I guess the venue for any potential final in 2015 and hopefully 2016 needs to be discussed. Us north western monkeys didn't have far to travel this year and personally speaking I would accept and attend a southern (urrgghh) or far northern finals day as its right and proper that the finals day goes 'on tour' if the majority felt that. Question is, would others believe this to be right and proper or does a central location suit? Would the Geordies and scots travel far down south one year and likewise the southern guys way up north the next (for example) ?

IF people do take this on again to look after (and Dave, full admiration for doing so last year) it could actually be the creation of a wee GM golfing monster and therefore finals day, whether premature at this stage or not, does need to be discussed at some point.

I think it is fair that it travels around, so no moaning then. One year it may be close, the next year not so much, as otherwise everyone moans about what is central, or not.

The great thing about last time was that each regional winner, had a good bit of their expenses covered, and the rest of the field was also well attended by others coming from up to 3 and even 4 hours away to add to the day.

It was. Remember the first tee nerves for some? I'm sorry to bring this up but one chaps chances were probably done with by the time he'd reached the 2nd tee. A couple of rounds were over after 2/3 holes, think that's the point people are making re Stableford. The time it took was definitely due to the conditions.

I agree with richart's comment that this is effectively a glorified society event. With such a wide range of handicaps it would be pointless playing medal, stableford is the only common sense option. If it was a scratch competition then yes, medal would be the right choice.

I would go stableford, the next decision is whether it is full, 7/8th or 3/4 handicap. Personally i would go for 3/4.

he should of went with hybrid like me instead of the driver..... To be fair though, I did have 13 points after 6 holes. Can't recall what happened thereafter
