More of a question to those with handicaps under 13 or so.....

Do you mind being drawn to play with those with a very high handicap in ballots at your club? When I say 'high', I mean 24 and up.....

Yep they are hackers at that handicap but we were all there once upon a time and people played with us and we got better. We should give these guys as much encouragement as possible. If you get drawn with one then just knuckle down and try to make the best of it.

Excellent.

I really can't wait until I can get a free weekend to take part in some ballots. I've built it up so much that I see better players than me (i.e. everyone) as being people who can't be bothered tagging along with fairway-diggers like me!

Thanks for putting that out of my mind.

I'm more concerned about whether or not they're decent company for 4 hours than their ability. I've had some fantastic rounds with higher handicappers and I've had four hours of purgatory with better players who were so self-obsessed it was unreal. As others have said we were all there once and but for the grace of God any of us can look like a hacker again on certain days.

I quite happy to hack It around with anyone whether they are 2, or 24 is irrelevant to my game as its me who hits my ball not my playing partners. You will find most members are friendly and will give plenty of encouragement, if your really unlucky and get a moody playing partner try not to let it affect you or stop you entering further comps every club will have 1 or 2 but they are definately in the minority.
Get out there and enjoy!

Doesn't bother me in the slightest. As long as s/he observes the etiquette of golf and is pleasant then I'm happy.

A good handicap doesn't mean that they're a joy to play with! I've played with many 'good' golfers who I'd never play with again!

I've played with many 'hackers' who I'd play with again at the drop of a hat.

I like watching lower players play but usually enjoy (prefer) the company of higher handicappers. I play with the elderly ladies on a Thursday and it's a great crack. Wouldn't necessarily fancy one of them as a foursomes partner mind!

Occasionally with a low handicapper I'll make sure I learn how NOT to behave when I get there.

I couldn't have put it any better myself.
