Getting drawn to play with a hacker in a comp....

I hate playing with high handicappers and frankly find it an affront to be drawn with them. On a few occasions I have just put the club's back in the car and gone back home after arriving at the club and finding out I've been drawn with one..........!!! ;) :D :D

Like others, it's the company and personality that I'm more concerned about when I play - nothing worse than playing with someone who is not prepared to have a chat and a bit of fun on the course.

Finally we get the truth, well said that man

It doesn't bother me at all. At my new club I am playing with different players each weekend in competitions and I am really enjoying it. All I hope is that they are talkative and they respect the rules of the game. If they aren't playing well I hope that they don't beat themselves up and ruin the atmosphere in the group.

I am a high handicapper. The reason I am not lower is not that I cannot hit the ball but that I can't do it well often enough. That does not make me a bad golfer just an inconsistent one. I can go out and play to 28 then the next day I can play to a 16 handicap. I guess I am improving golfer. Mostly I play with people lower than me and they dont seem to have an issue (Especially when I outdrive them onto the fairway and they are in the rough :D) with a higher handicap.

From my own point of view a game of golf is a game of golf and I will happily play with anyone be they high/low/junior/senior/lady etc. I think sometimes the higher the handicap the less pressure to really score well and the more fun we have.

Rules are simple for me - have a laugh and a joke between shots - if the lower handicapper doesn't want to share a joke during the 4 hours then they are not worth playing with!

As a few have said we're all capable of making a dog's dinner of it!

If he's smashing it miles don't try to match him, play your own game and use your shots!

I do not consider myself a hacker, I'm merely someone who tries to get the most value out of my green fees (Strokes/£). Enjoying a morning/afternoon/day on the course with good company is always my priority. Having said that, I REALLY want to get better!

Totally agree with all of that.
I was given a good bit of advice by a good player a few years ago. Always play with people better than you, you will either raise your game to their level, or drag then down to yours!:D
