Getting drawn to play with a hacker in a comp....

Excellent.

I really can't wait until I can get a free weekend to take part in some ballots. I've built it up so much that I see better players than me (i.e. everyone) as being people who can't be bothered tagging along with fairway-diggers like me!

Thanks for putting that out of my mind.

Get stuck in, play by the rules, have a good time and whoever you are playing with will respect and enjoy your company.

I have been paired regularly with a guy off 5 and another who plays off 7. To be honest when you get to that level you have your routine and your mind set down and other people dont really affect you. At least thats what they tell me.

What I can say is they have both been amazingly helpfull to me and not once have I detected any sort of impatience towards me even when I shot 121 in a medal round they both shot 72 in.

Remember what they do can not really affect what you do on the course.

More of a question to those with handicaps under 13 or so.....

Do you mind being drawn to play with those with a very high handicap in ballots at your club? When I say 'high', I mean 24 and up.....

I play with at least a 24 hcp every week and I find I enjoy the round a bit more as we're just able to have a laugh instead both of us getting stressed out about a shot.

I'm more concerned about whether or not they're decent company for 4 hours than their ability. I've had some fantastic rounds with higher handicappers and I've had four hours of purgatory with better players who were so self-obsessed it was unreal. As others have said we were all there once and but for the grace of God any of us can look like a hacker again on certain days.

Totally agree with this.

The only other observation I would make is that in general terms, the only golfers I play with that start to annoy me to the point where I invariably and usually quite gently, speak to them about it, are those who are not ready to hit the ball when it is their turn. Very infuriating.

Agreed on both counts

Got drawn with two old boys off of 24 on Thursday and it was one of the best rounds of my life. The banter was hilarious and it led to such a relaxed atmosphere that we all scored well. It is always about the personality, not the handicap. Can't stand handicap snobs.

I don't mind much, but I know some low guys (4-6) who do.

They feel they don't ever get their round flowing. I've noticed that slowish rounds - even waiting for guys in front - tend to be better scoring ones for me, so that's my thought when they are hcking it around. Most of the high-cappers I play with these days are simply short hitters who fluff some shots rather than the big hitting guys, Constantly looking for balls in woods might get me down a bit.

There is a woman at our club that I will happily play with, she only hits the ball about 60 -80 yds, but when I joined last year she was one I could get a game with, when everyone else was already booked, so I feel it would not be nice to refuse to play with her now.

Particularly at driving range meets!:o:D

Lower handicap players find your balls quicker as they look 30 yards (or more) back to where we are looking and have a better eye for it

I played with a 2 handicapper the other day and when he was off-line , he was off by a country mile but he still always walked up to his ball in any conditions and miraculously got it back in play and even made par, great to watch!

Company is everything, not the handicap or ability to play well I think. I've played with much lower handicap players who shout at themselves, moan like mad all the way around and are just a pain to be with so, its just as much relevant the other way around also, there are some lower handicap players I wouldn't want to play with as although their ability is excellent, their a pain in the butt to share 4 hours with

doesnt really bother me as long as the banter is good........ fyi virtuo I wouldnt of classed you as a hacker, fair battered it round alright when we played! .......

my regular playing partner gets himself right wound up about waiting on tees on stuff, last night he was spewin cos the guys infront took about 7 hits each to get it up the first fairway..... it really doesnt bother me lol....... half the time he uses the anger and batters it up the middle but it is a pain in the arse when he blames the people infront for a crap shot........ ^_^

That being said I was joking all the way roudn to him last night about which hole my round would blow up on cos I was about 4-5 under handicap....... Hit my tee shot oob on par 3 16th.............. probably the angriest ive ever got on a golf course...... Bit my grip so hard that I went through it into the shaft lol....... but better that than launching a club or shouting and putting other people off :) went through the last 3 holes in 7 over :'( net 72 (+2)

A few weeks ago I turned up at our Wednesday medal and got paired up with a young lad off 2.

My initial reaction was wow this guys is going to love this. Turned out he was a decent bloke, best round I've played and probably the most enjoyable.

I've yet to see any sign of handicap snobbery since I joined 9 months ago.

I don't mind at all playing with these types. I always enjoy the banter as we go round and nobody gets too wound up.

I also try and help the lower guys to find their balls - 'cos they hit it further, it goes deeper in the clag!

I'm very happy to see the love for us hackers. I try to be as light hearted as I can and have a laugh with the lads I play with.

I'm fortunate enough to be able to play with 2 different groups, both full of good lads of handicaps ranging from 2 to 28. Plenty of banter about anything and everything

I have however played with other guys of low&mid handicaps who are so pent up on their game that it is just not worth wasting a single hole with never mind 4 hours. I told said fella to tee off at the 4th hole with his pal (also a complete plank) and ill wait out and drop a hole behind. It turned out that others at the club make a point of refusing their company.

Life is too short to be a tool, people need to enjoy this fantastic sport or find something else to do.

Like most on here, it's the company not the golf that counts. But, there is a rider on that. If playing with a high handicapper having a very bad day, I would like them to stop taking on silly shots. Seriously, a three iron from rough tiger would blanch at taking an 8 iron from! take the medicine, and get it back on the fairway. Permanently looking for balls is no fun. Oh, and cut out the four hour pre shot routine, if your last shot only dribbled thirty yards. It didn't help then, it won't help now.

Smiling helps though!

I hate playing with high handicappers and frankly find it an affront to be drawn with them. On a few occasions I have just put the club's back in the car and gone back home after arriving at the club and finding out I've been drawn with one..........!!! ;) :D :D

Like others, it's the company and personality that I'm more concerned about when I play - nothing worse than playing with someone who is not prepared to have a chat and a bit of fun on the course.

I think someones personality is more important than their golf standard, but what if you play with someone who hits every tee shot into the woods, and you spend nearly five minutes every hole searching for it. Would you still enjoy this ?

Just checking as I want to know who is happy to play with me on the H4H day at West Hill.;)
