I like this format but I have a lot of mates in our group who won’t touch it with a barge pole.

Most common reason cited for not playing it: ‘Nah, it’s just half a game.’

Where do you stand?

It's a format for a regular partner, or elite golfers.

As already commented, the issue of half a game is very subjective.

I think it depends on how much time you got to play golf. If I could play once a fortnight I wouldn't play it.

Yes that’s a fair point and would agree. But as a frequent player I enjoy the opportunity to play something different. Also it requires a different mindset and strategic approach.

Every now and again and tomorrow is one of those every now 😉. Mixed foursomes at Carnoustie with the Scottish Ladies Links champion off 5 who is subbing for my wife who broke her arm last Sunday 😉

Awful format

Never get any rhythm going

Playing half a game ..

If I was a member somewhere I’d hate playing it.. if I pay a green fee I’d refuse to play it as why would I pay full price to play half a course

As I suspected it might be... a subject that exercises pretty strong views.

I totally get and agree with the limited time available and the paying a green fee argument. No question- it’s a no-no.

So I guess this is more aimed at club members who have the opportunity to play more than once a week.

Also the fact its an integral part of he Ryder Cup must say something about its merits as a valid format.

Played it twice years ago
Didn't particularly enjoy it even though I was playing with a good mate.
And it did feel like half a game.
Given the choice I'd rather play something ((anything(almost)) else.....

I enjoy it but as already said, if your golf time is limited then it's not great.

I think it works great on a good 9 hole course, everyone gets to play from each tee and the course doesn't feel like you're playing the same holes again second time round as now you're hitting tee shots instead of approaches and vice versa.

I want to like it, its great to watch at the ryder cup.

Golf is, at its core, an individual sport and this makes foursomes hard to like.

I would tend to avoid in favour of betterball and formats like greensomes etc.
