Hi everyone, thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks in advance for any help.

I have been entered into a fourball competition at my work, and having never played this format I have a few questions on the subject.

Firstly, I have been given the status as challenger in the tie, does this mean I play home or away?

Secondly, as whoever is visiting will have to pay green fees is it the done thing to pay the visitors fees, split the cost or something else?

Thirdly, is there a set convention to who tees of first on the first tee?

Thanks again,

Davie.

Thanks for the answer, sorry i wasn't clear about the first issue. Me and my partner play at course "A", our opponents play at course "B". As we are the challenger does the tie play at course "A" or "B"?

I'd expect the challenger to be the home player. Rules of the comp will probably cover how many dates to offer and how to handle green fees. In our county knockout green fees are split by the two players if courtesy of the course isn't given.

I also think the challenger tees first but could be wrong on that one! :-)

I would have thought the challenger was the away player. However the organisers should be able to clear it up. Or your secretary may know from this event in previous years. Certainly if you are representing your clubs (eg in something like a local league), then it is normal for the home club to give courtesy of the course for the match.

I have got to the bottom of this, challenger plays at home, challenger tees off first and the cost is split between both teams. Thanks everyone for their help.
