The rules dictate that just because a player plays the ball, he isnt then automatically entitled to take the player out aswell and fletcher may have won the ball, but got a whole lot of player.

By the letter of the (stupid) rules, it should stand.

And where were all the protestations from Man Utd when Spurs keeper Gomes took the ball and not the man at Old Trafford a few days back , giving them the penalty ? Why did they not say that it was never a pen ?

Great post, that's just the way it is and whilst I understand those feeling aggrieved, no Man Utd fan can argue with what nomadpaul says. They got a penalty that was ball then man and were joyous (in my opinion it definitely changed the game, but then again I'm a spurs fan! ) and then in a similar ball then man contact they are complaining. You can' have it all ways and whilst it may be frustrating, until we have AI referees it is always going to happen.

The Ref was shocking, everytime a utd player went down he gave a free kick. It was par for the course that he got that wrong aswell.

I hope Arsenal see sence now and get rid of Arsene Winger. Not a trophy in 4 yrs, and always comming last in the top 4 spot. Time to go AW. 4 yrs? some managers wouldn't last 4 month's.

Wouldn't you have gone in for that tackle? I would, would have probably got sent off also.
Fletcher gives his all in every game and I would have expected no less from him. Very underated player.
Over the two legs, I think he was the stand out player.

No appeal against the sending off. He's not the first and won't be the last to miss a big ocassion because of a refereeing decision.

I'm not criticising the ref as from his position it probably did look like he took the man. Overall I thought the ref was excellent apart from some soft free kicks when the players developed "drunks legs"

Just as an aside Jagielka will also miss the biggect game of his life. No connection I know but sometimes fate deals you a bad hand

Given that the whole Arsenal CL squad cost less than Fergie spent on Anderson and Nani, I think Wenger does well on the limited budget he has to work with. I can't see how anyone can want him gone, he has performed miracles, and made Arsenal punch well above their weight. If, and it is a big if, he can buy a decent central midfielder, and a decent centerback, and off load a couple of freeloaders (Adebayor being one of them), I think this has the makings of a decent team.

The game last night was over a soon as Gibbs slipped. What happened next is totally irrelevant, as every player on te pitch knew it was over.

Ronaldo's free kick was amazing, but should never have been given.

Fletcher got sent off by the rules. You just can't do that anymore. I feel sorrier for Jagielka. Also, Everton needed him to stand a chance against the russians.

Just been readingthe dailies, I feel for young Gibbs. He has got absolutely slated. FFS he slipped!! it's not as if he gave a short back pass or anything. You could see he was affected by it.

How old is he, 19? To get panned like that for a slip is criminal. Some of these hacks need to dip their heads in a bucket of acid.

Incidentally, i've seen the replay again and Gibbs gave a litle tug on Park which may have caused Park to lose his balance and so helped him to lift the ball over the keeper. I'm not sure he could have done it whilst still upright.

I don't mind the fact Fletcher misses the final. For me he's a worker but has no class and runs around clumsily like a new born foal. They've got classier midfielders than him. Nani and Anderson should play ahead of Fletcher.
I think ManU will win CL, Barca will likely lose tonight as Chelsea will outmuscle them and I think ManU have the edge over Chelsea, will be tight like last year though.

Wenger is soooo overated,he came in and won trophies with the team he inherited bar 2 or 3 players then had a lean spell then won a couple of league titles with 02 being the pick bit since 04's success he has only won the FA Cup....how many bosses get away with that?
They all rave about 'oh what great football they play' but the fact is he has brought on some nice players but these footballers are losers under him not winners and the club won more when they played less attractive football and had a bit of bite in the team.
