F1 2024

No point in Norris trying to overtake, if he gets close enough, before Max pits. With 2 penalties sure to mean Max will finish well behind Norris, I can see Max not being too upset if he "accidentally" wipes Norris out of the race

So last week Norris gets a penalty this week it’s verstappen. Was there that much difference between the incidents.

Very marginal difference between the two, but Max continuing his style of driving which is forcing others to take defensive action in order to stop what could be a nasty crash.

Max has been getting away with pushing the limits going back to 2021. He is undoubtedly a quick driver, but he doesn’t seem to cope well when under pressure.

Last week, Max didn't bother breaking, got to Apex just before Norris, and so it was "his corner" under the guidelines. He basically got away with it on a technicality, a poor technicality.

This week, Norris got to the corner first, so now the officials can penalise Max for that first incident. He then did it a few corners later.

I'm pretty sure the rules are bound to change soon, to stop Max getting away with that sort of defending at all. All the other drivers seem to think changes are needed

The second penalty for MV was simply dangerous driving.
The second penalty was for "leaving the track and gaining an advantage". (The first one was for forcing another driver off track).

But as I said in #234, article 33.3 of the sporting regulations is all the stewards need.
Every time Max deliberately brakes so late that he cannot make a corner, he's breaking that regulation.

Thinking ahead and being anti verstappen I really think that Lando is going to be in serious trouble in the next couple of races as verstappen will try and take him out big time .
Now if he did and the very worst happened ,ie Lando being killed ,which could easily happen with the speeds involved .could verstappen be up on a murder charge . .
I'm just thinking out loud here as I don't want any shenanigans from verstappen or Norris ,or anyone else. But I see it as a possible scenario.

I'm guessing not, you'd have to prove that Max tried to murder him. We've seen drivers do very dangerous things in the past and wipe someone out, but have they ever been charged with attempted murder?

Always supported the British drivers, and have such, been a big Hamilton fan for many years (despite him looking a bit of a twerp in his fancy dress costumes from time to time). But, really liking the emergence of Norris, he seems to be the sort of driver I can support in the coming years (whilst still supporting Hamilton while he remains in the sport). And, if Russell starts to regularly compete at the top, all the better

I agree, anything to distract from the talented but petulant MV

I don't think he would blatantly try and take him out literally, but if he was cause of an "accident" and the worst happened would he be culpable in the eyes of the law .
God forbid it ever happens.

You would be looking at manslaughter charges under English law but the law of the relevant country would apply. For murder (or attempted) you need to not only commit the act but also have an intention to kill. Manslaughter is a death resulting from an action where the intention was not to kill. I could see manslaughter charges being possible if there is clear evidence that it was not just an horrendous accident.

Ah well... This hasn't panned out the way Norris wanted... And will prob get worse when the start penalty is applied.. Fair play to Max... Some drive from 17th.... 😔

Much as I'm not a fan of RB and MV, that was pretty much a flawless drive by Max. Would love to see some team's repair bills for the weekend.

Completely not the result I was hoping for.

In all honesty, if you are ever in a position of starting 17th on the grid, the best time for that to happen is in a wet race. The weather might have hampered Max in qualifying because of the red flag (albeit he already would have had a 5 place grid penalty), but it very much worked in his favour in the race.

If you are up front in a wet race, it probably isn't worth gambling on strategy, and just hoping you make the pits at logical times and no events occur that mess you up. Whereas, if you're miles back, you can pretty much risk gambling (not really a gamble if you are out of the points anyway), staying out as long as possible and hoping a safety car / red flag turns things on its head. Seems like Russell and Norris made their pit stops at the worst possible time. Not sure on the timing of these calls, and whether is was pure bad luck or an error by the team, but guessing it was bad luck given both did it.

When drivers get interviewed after race, they always have an official from their team stood right behind them. Who are they and what do they do?

PR staff - to pull the driver away if they think a question is out of line or if the driver is about to say something they might regret later. All sports teams do it now.

I was thinking that, but it all seems a bit OTT. Like, Big Brother is watching.

Imagine every football team, or any organisation at all, had someone behind the person being interviewed, and pulled them away anytime they got a hint of something untoward being said? It seems like the PR staff need to be sacked at Red Bull, as they seemingly fail to pull Max away every time he says something controversial :ROFLMAO:

In Italy certainly yes. From memory there was something about Corporate manslaughter over Ayrton Senna's death.

Schumacher/ Hill incidents come to mind.

Pleased to see it was just a fine and reprimand for Lando for leaving the grid, no penalties to anyone else.
As they all they all, eventually left, the grid would have been hard to see all the others not getting time penalties.
