Exclusion of lady captain from main committee

From the sounds of it, the men's captain and ladies captain don't have a place but the club captain does. I've never fully understood why some clubs have this set up, a separate club captain, but they do.

Can a female become club captain?

Somewhere in your rules it will state the composition of the committee. I think you need to look this up. Everyone is blind without that really.

All other things being equal, removal of the Lady Capt. from the committee is daft.

I wonder what the reason was? (Stated or otherwise)

Is the section has fallen to 40 members and that's seen as too small, what are they doing to restore numbers? Ladies golf is a massive growth area, especially juniors. Just need to facilitate the process

Newport has had women as Club Captain more than once. Note the use of the word "Club." There was still a Lady Captain when a lady was Club Captain, but there wasn't a "men's captain in those years.

@Sandra Rooke could you clarify the second half your first sentence?

It doesn't sound illegal, depending on terms and language used, but if BOTH Captains have always been on the main committee, seems a retrograde step to remove one.

Thank you will do

For what it's worth, not a huge amount I'm afraid, I think a club committee without female representation of some sort is missing a trick. Different perspective, different requirements of lady members.

I don't believe there is a legal requirement for females to be on the committee, the question posed on post 1, but it just makes good sense. Whether it needs to be the lady captain, that is down to the club constitution.

Our ladies captain sits on the main committee. I read the minutes on the website, all she talks about is flowers in the clubhouse 🤷‍♂️

Or perhaps that is all they choose to minute for the members to see? After all everything discussed will not be available for the members to read.

Who sits on our Captain's committee is set out in our Club Rules and Regs , both the Lady Captain and the Lady Vice Captain have voting rights on the committee, as do the Captain and Vice Captain.

I heard the that the structure may change in 2025

We currently have a lady President but Presidents have no say on how the club is run.

I have assumed that any changes in those need to be put before the members for approval.

Club's are now asked/supposed to have a Club Governance structure laid out (as requested by England Golf).
