Hi
Our current lady captain has been told that going forward the lady captain will no longer be included on the main committee as of insignificant standing
Is this even legal

Not sure legality would have anything to do with it tbh

Morally prob not right

But guess depends on what the lady captains role is on the committee

A committee of formed to represent all the members and as long as there is a route into the committee to hear the voices of the ladies section then it should be ok

Who and how determines the composition of the 'main committee? Is it a Members' Club or owned by a company?

Not sure what the legal standing is, but if you have got the "mens captain2 on the committee but not the "ladies captain", it's not a very good look.

The lady captain at my club is not on the main committee.
There is no such position as men’s captain.
We had a club captain who was a woman for 3 years around Covid times.

Newport has had women as Club Captain more than once. Note the use of the word "Club." There was still a Lady Captain when a lady was Club Captain, but there wasn't a "men's captain in those years.

@Sandra Rooke could you clarify the second half your first sentence?

It doesn't sound illegal, depending on terms and language used, but if BOTH Captains have always been on the main committee, seems a retrograde step to remove one.

Last year we had a lady club captain who was very good
We also had a men’s captain

Surely it is. Common sense and equitable that both stand on whatever committees are appropriate

Otherwise madness ensues 🙄

We have the ladies captain on our committee. Though our club captain is not a sex specific role.
I think both sexes should have representation on the committee.

We have a club captain as well.
However women's competitions are separate from men's and men , women seniors and juniors all have different fixtures. I think they certainly need some representation on the committee.

Sounds like a perfect make up of a comps committee

We invited the ladies to join the HC and comps committee- they of course turned it down

We do not have a Lady Captain as there was a fallout amongst them some years back and no one wants to take on the role. Nevertheless the ladies are represented on the club committee.

We no longer have a committee instead we have Directors and a chairman we still have a club captain and President
Any member male or female can become a director or chairman they just need a proposer and seconder and are voted on at our A.G.M.
Our ladies have chosen to keep their office of Lady Captain who still plays a very active part in club activities our next president is to be a lady (not the for the first time).

May I ask how many Lady members there are as if they are under represented the club should be doing something to address this.

My understanding is that the lady captain has been on the main committee since the 1970s
