there is no way that two people should ever sit and wait for 3 holes then proceed to tee off when the group behind walks onto the tee.

Think you have miss read the op. They waited whilst they played their second, third and fourth shots to the fourth hole, and then teed off the fifth. Five minutes waiting at most. I assume they were not waiting for a group in front to get out of range.

Not sure why AmateurSwinger didn't just ask politely if they could play through. It may have saved all the aggro.

Seems a very strange thread to me!
People jumping to conclusions based on dress & age, and an overly agressive OP.
In fact I'm suprised the title hasn't been amended as IMHO it isn't really suitable for a sport forum.

Ignore the ages of those involved and the dress code violations. Ignore the use of buggy and the reason for it. Golf etiquette should always be adhered to!

The group in front shouldn't have messed around on the 1st tee.
The group in front shouldn't have waited on the tee and then played just as the next group were approaching the tee (unless there was a group in front of them slowing them down).

The OP shouldn't have been rude.
The OP should have, politely, asked to be let through.

My advice:
Never get into a situation where a fight may ensue - you never know the ability and training of those you come across. Some people are literally "dangerous weapons".
&,
Chill out - golf is a game and it should be enjoyed.

Dont see the harm in the OP heading .. Its just a question , maybe take your own advice on this bit & chill a fraction on this one ,:D
Theres alot of shouldnt & a should in there , if we all did the right thing every time it would be a very proper world with no need for rules , referees , army, security systems , door locks or police etc
.. aint gona happen
Dont get me wrong i do agree with your statements but there are always going to be mistakes .. but if as you say golf etiquette should have been adheared to then this incident would not have happened ,
I also apreciate 2 wrongs dont make a right .. but these situations do occur & the brown stuff happens ..

I agree that the "should & shouldn'ts" don't often happen (from personal experience), but doesn't mean that they aren't correct. I was just trying to point out a better way of going about that situation for the OP.

With regard the title - I suppose that other forums I've been on wouldn't have allowed it, so it's more a prior experience thing than expectation/self righteousness.

What I like about golf, in general, is that there is an etiquette that most people keep too. This IMO makes it self managing and I just hope we never end up like football where player behaviour is terrible at most levels, including age group matches.

I can see why the OP is frustrated but the only thing that let him down is not asking to be let through before having a pop. Anybody who wouldnt of been pissed off with the two people that sound like morons in front of them is either a saint or lying. To be fair they shouldnt of had to ask to play through as the two morons clearly knew they were holding them up and should of offered. Considering the OP said the blokes were 50 ish as well means they should clearly know better as well imo.

Perfect example of chinese whispers, they were mid 40's. No one is saying they would not be annoyed with what went on in front of them, also you said they should not need to ask to play through they should be offered ? clearly by reading the OP the guys in front were lacking in the etiquette dept so probably had no knowledge of letting people through.

Will you be my punchbag? I don't really like you that much!

Not sure what your getting at there to be honest.

If the guys were lacking in the etiquette department then they clearly shouldnt of been on the course. Even if they were lacking nobody is stupid enough to think its ok to wait until somebody is stood waiting on the same tee before they played.

So only those that have knowledge of Etiquette should be on the course ? sounds like a lonely golf course.

How many courses non public do you think would let these guys on knowing they had no idea of golf etiquette and also were dressed inappropriatly? I cant think of any members courses near me where they would of got past the front gate.

Of course the majority of courses would not let them play but then the majority of courses would have had someone out when they were teeing off from 3 different tee boxes at the 1st ?

Totally agree with that. To be fair with how they were dressed im suprised they got to the first tee at all. The only other option the OP had was to report them after seeing that fiasco on the first.

Funny you should mention this... I was playing a match against one of the guys at our club last week, German guy, originally from Stuttgart. In Germany you have to have a license to play golf. The license comprises of 2 parts, a test on the etiquette and rules of golf and an aptitude test (to prove you can swing a club properly). without this license you simply cannot play golf at a course in Germany.

Not sure it would work here, but its an interesting idea nonetheless..

That's right. I played in a competition with some German's recently and they explained their Golf Test system. They have to have some lessons and sit a test to get the license. Sounds good to me, it would force many of the Pikey element off the courses.

Played through 6 x 4 balls at my course today with nothing worse than a smile.

Probably helped that the 'other guy' is the club champ though

I just don't get why people can't understand that someone who catches you up is more than likely playing FASTER than you are  and you should let them through a.s.a.p

I should add that the group on the 1st tee that we asked if we could go off before them as they were a 3-ball and we'd be out of their way in no time was that of the club Captain! He was most courteous.
