Suppose this was bound to happen one day but all a bit of a shame. The 'DP World Tour' doesn't really trip off the tongue but it does bring in the money..

I guess when you look at where they play tournaments there is logic in it. It is no longer purely a European Tour and this will help to show this. Helps the marketing people etc.

I'm for it, its extra sponsorship, the tour ownership hasn't changed and pulling in Japan etc can only help widen the "European Tour" appeal and pull in further money to keep it appealing over the noisy folks across the pond.

I think the hammer blow was when they went to Worthington's and everybody christened it the 'Worthless Cup' or the 'Worth-nothing Cup'. Hard to recover from that.

Pro golf just seems to be turning into a big ugly mess.

Saudi's trying to muscle in to sportwash their disgusting regime. Basically trying to emulate what UAE managed with the European Tour - that takeover now complete it seems.

In response, the PGA tour looks like transforming itself into a big exhibition for the supposed "top" players where sporting performance and results don't actually matter.

Really sad state of affairs. The game is lost.

Being totally honest. I find the bit in bold nonsense and rather melodramatic.

“The game” is far more than the 0.001% who play on tour.

The game is the millions of amateurs going out and playing for whatever reason they have to play. It’s my 11 year old is getting in to golf and the games we play. He couldn’t care less what the pros are doing, as it has zero impact on his enjoyment, and I’d be surprised if he could name any of them other than Tiger.

If what is going on in the pro game is such an issue to people. Simply stop watching it. If enough people do, maybe the tours will take notice. I suspect they won’t lose viewers.
